R60 HK Stereo Issues - will the third fix be the charm?
HK Stereo Issues - will the third fix be the charm?
I have a 2012 CMS that I took delivery of last October. Great car, very fun to drive, and the HK sound system sounds wonderful.
Towards the middle to end of December, the aux-in jack for the Y-cable began to give out, causing the audio to drop to one channel whenever the cable was moved or bumped around during a drive. I took it in to the dealership, drove a Clubman for a day or two, and the USB/AV-in socket was replaced.
Shortly thereafter, I noticed that the sound intermittently dropped to one channel again. It wasn't the aux-in this time, but it happened while making a hard turn once, so I took it back to the dealership and let them know what was going on. After driving a different Clubman for a day or two, they weren't able to replicate the issue but did decide that something was wrong with the Y-cable, so it was replaced.
The issue persisted, and I found that it was happening when hitting small bumps in the road (or driving over speed bumps). I took it back to the dealer with this information and they found that the radio unit itself was shorting out. They said that tapping on the top of the radio stack caused the sound to drop out on the left channel. After driving a hardtop for a little under a week, the radio unit was replaced, I tested it out before driving too far away and was content that the issue was resolved.
That was on Tuesday, and that same night I found that the joystick would stick when moved down or to the left. Oh well, it happens. This morning, I discovered that the navigation didn't work as it was requesting the activation code. I stopped by the dealership to demonstrate both issues, and a new nav code was ordered, and we hoped to have it by 2PM. MINI denied the request because apparently the dealership needs to request the same code that was used before, which takes longer. No biggie.
Tonight, when driving home from work, I called my girlfriend using the bluetooth in the car and the sound wasn't coming from the left channel. After hanging up, I tried using the radio and found that the sound was once again not working on the left side no matter what audio source I used, and it seemed to go in and out with bumps in the road.
The dealership has been very helpful, but I'm starting to get a bit frustrated. I haven't hit any big potholes or bumps, the roads I drive on are normal, paved roads.
I suppose my question is: has anyone in our community experienced this and found a resolution, so I can make the suggestion to the dealership when I bring it back? Or, should I just hope that this visit will be the charm that makes everything work again?
