An easy tire size question for R56s

I have an '07 justa MINI. I picked up some nice 17" crown spokes on craigslist. I see that 205/45/17 tires were stock on those wheels. Will 215/45's fit without interference? I hope a larger tire will provide a bit of advantage at the local autocrosses.

You should be fine with 215s on there.

Should fit okay, as Porthos said. Whether the 215/45 would be quicker at AX than the 205/45 might be a close call though.

The 215/45 should be about .3" taller, and a couple of pounds heavier than the 205/45. Those differences might detract some from any gain due to added tread width. All three differences are fairly small; thus the close call.

Both sizes seem to offer a good range of choices in the Extreme and Maximum Performance tire categories, but if the clearly best AX tire comes in one size but not the other, that tire would probably be my choice.

Yup! They'll fit easily. I put 225/45/17 snowtires on my MCS. They touch only when you lock all the way left or right.

Running 225/45/17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports I had installed a couple of months ago instead of replacing the stock 205/45/17 runflats. I get no interference at all with these. Rides and handles much better.

Thanks, all. There are more choices at the 215/45-17 size than there are at the 205 size, e.g., Hankook Ventus R-S3 is not available in 205.

You are planning on STF right? 17s aren't legal in SCCA stock unless you have a 2012.

I thought the 17" crown spokes were available as an option for justa' Mini's in 2007, making them legal in HS now, i.e., "Except for modifications authorized below, Stock Category cars must be run as specified by the factory with only standard equipment as defined by these Rules. This requirement refers not just to individual parts, but to combinations thereof which would have been ordered together on a specific car."

However, it has been pointed out to me that the STF class has a lower PAX multiplier, so I might be better off to go with STF anyway.

Factory wheel options for the MC are 15" or 16", so 17s aren't legal in SCCA H Stock.

So are the 17" wheels from the accessories section of the MC build site not legal because they are actually dealer installed options?

That's my understanding.

The MC that won HS at the last SCCA Solo Nationals actually wore 15X5.5" wheels rather than the more popular 16X6.5" wheels.
