Just pick up any Car and Driver Mag laying around. They are advertised in all of
them.

The only place to buy a Valentine is http://www.valentineone.com. I've read that there are other sites that sell them discounted. http://www.valentineone.com is the only vendor of the authentic Valentine 1. Basically, if you try to save a buck, you're just going to buy a POS.

You might try ebay to find a used V1. I just did a search for Valentine and it brought up a few. I'd suggest calling V1 with the serial # before bidding one one and make sure it's legit.

One of V-1's best feature besides the arrows is its ability to upgrade internally without gettig a new unit. They have a record of all the units sold and will not upgrade the ones that are reported stolen. It's hard to know the origin of the used one on the market unless S/N is provided.

I guess the last question is, are you happy with your v1's?
I see a lot of v1.8's at ebay....not sure why that is (stolen? )

Im using an old Passport7500. Would I notice a whopping eye catching
difference? Not sure if its really worth $399...

Please comment your experience.

Totally!!! It does cost quite a bit more than 8500, but I don't think I can live without the arrows any more.

The V1 is a very good detector and well worth the money. When I drive the heavier traveled roads (cops fish where the fish are) I always use my V1. It is really nice to know which direction the radar is coming from. The arrows are great as is the amount of warning the V1 provides.

I drive 100 miles a day on the turnpike, the V1 was the best investment I ever made. You won't regret it. I also have a 8500 but prefer the V1.

Purchased my V1 in July with the Cooper S.. 2 friends bought them also, one for his CL32 AMG and the other for his vette.. After reading the mammoth Car and Driver report on radar detectors, and realizing that all brands advertise in C&D with ethe V1 slaughtering the competition.. I bought one.. it was a bit of money, but I am happy as a clam.. the only downside in my opinion is in "all" mode, the thing goes of constantly round here..the range is pretty incredible for K and Ka (haven't been lased yet, but hey its over when you are anyway) so far, I find myself slowing down and actively scanning the direction (god the those arrows rock!) of the threat.. sometimes I can't even see em they are that far.. anyway, I love mine and will not even look at other brands.. seems to be rugged too, I dropped mine on the sidewalk and it still worked fine, mag alloy case.. PS radartest.com is totally in clusion with Passport..
