Does this wheel look fixable/usable to you?
Does this wheel look fixable/usable to you?
Hey all,
Recently bought some Konig Feathers in the marketplace. Pics in ad were clean save a scuff, but when they arrived there was a significant ding on one wheel. Seller and I are looking into a claim with fedex as it may have been damaged in transport.
In the meantime, I'd like opinions on whether it looks safe to use, or fixable, and if so, how much it might cost? I did get one quote of $100 to grind out/fill in the problem area, but I imagine it might be able to be heated up and banged back into shape as well? I will be bringing it to my normal wheel/tire guy to look at soon, in the meantime, here are some photos:

Sounds about right, that would be my preferred method.
The last thing I'd want to do with a cast wheel is to induce locate high-heat and using blunt force.

Thanks for the reply! Maybe you're right about option B, I just read about that on some website, but I guess it doesn't really hold up to scrutiny.
I hate to spend $100 to fix a wheel that's barely worth $100, but I guess it's the best fix.

I don't think it's bent at all, it seems to just be chipped. It rolls straight across the hardwood floor, anyway! I'm not sure whether I should fix it or just tuck it away on the passenger rear side where I'll hardly ever see it.

That looks just fine. One race I had my Challenger skid into a blocker wall (she ran up the wall, not full side contact) that warpped the rims and they were fixed and I continue today with those same rims (although I AM looking to replace them). I vote spend the $100 to have that ding "fixed" new. I think I spent $130 each on two rims (better than the $165 each minimum to replace all four as those would have been $300 each). A good shop can make them race quality again.
Thanks for the input everyone! My wheel/tire guy said it's fine as is, so that's good to know. I'll decide if I want to bother painting/repairing it closer to spring when I actually need them mounted. I'd like to, but I'm also looking into upgrading the stereo, $100 would be a step towards that.
