People keep "bright lighting" me.

Has anyone else with the adaptive xenon headlights had trouble with people flashing their bright lights at your thinking you had your lights on bright when you didn't?

Even tonight, I was behind a car...but not too close. The pull over wait on me to go buy and then get up right behind me and turn their lights on bright. When I turned off they honk like crazy at me and flip me off.

They don't seem to be adjusted too high.

I wish I could have gotten back behind the guy tonight, I would have really shown him what bright lights are

My son used to be concerned about blinding other drivers with the xenons in his 3-series - he felt they were a little high.

I watch the adaptive xenons I always use adjust themselves each time they get going. The sharp cutoff line is exactly where I'd choose to place it and, in most cases, doesn't bother other drivers. Going over a short rise or other road variation the bright part of the beam can briefly illuminate oncoming cars, and I've sometimes gotten reactions. I think I can live with it, especially the jealousy...Non illigitimus carborundum

I've noticed that on rough roads my xenons will bounce up and down as they try to level themselves. Do you suppose other cars might think you are flashing them and flash back to show you they are on dim?

Be careful out there.

I chose not to get the adaptive xenons for this reason. with city driving, i agree that they are sometimes too bright for oncoming traffic. i notice this myself especially when driving a motorcycle and am blinded by oncoming high intensity lighting. at some point bright is too bright.

If you've never had xenon or HID lights before, get used to being flashed for no reason. Its just something that will happen. I usually flash back to show them my actual high beams...

When someone does that to me, I flip my high beams on and leave them on. Is that rude?

Cheers,
Tad

I do have them on a Lexus we have (adaptive xenon's) and never had this problem. Maybe they are adjusted differently.

Happens to me all the time. I live in a very rural area and drive a lot. I often get "flashed" to lower my high beams when they are not on. MY reflex is to immediately turn them off, UGH. The high beams are awesomely bright, must be a nasty shock to get even brighter lights on your face.

But I really love the head lights, so many of my other cars have been pathetic for night, fog, driving. To be able to see so well is wonderful.

This is common with xenon headlights even with auto-leveling and adaptive. People think you have your brights on even if they are not being blinded.

It is rude and dangerous to do that.

If I react fast enough I will do a quick blip of the brights to remind them they don't have a clue, but never leave them on in an attempt to blind them or other drivers. On the highways, more often than not it is the truckers who flash their brights.

xenons

My wife's Camry has Xenons and we get flashed for bright lights all the time..I always thought Halogens were fine myself, the Xenons can be over powering head-on or in the rear view mirror and there really is not much an oncoming driver can do but pray...

I would have thought that the laughing smiley was enough to indicate that I was kidding.

Just to clarify: "I was kidding!"

I usually just run them off the road. (Again, "Just kidding!")

Keep calm and carry on,
Tad

But they actually might have a clue. People don't flash indiscriminately -- only when lights are glaring at them.

I think this smiley would have tipped us off

The fact is that people DO purposely make other peoples lives difficult so you never know.

But a lot of xenons will glare going over hills, SUVs behind a small car like the MINI, etc. This is the fact of life on the road today. Why do people flash anyways... ? If someone actually has their brights on, it's because they don't see the idiot light warning them, they don't care or ...?

Anyways I have been blinded in daylight by some xenon high beams. Why do people have their brights on during the daytime?

I've owned quite a few cars with HID/Adaptive headlights and I can tell you the Countryman's are the brightest by far. The beams are so well defined they are almost laser-like, most noticeable when looking at them from outside the car. I've noticed it the first time a valet brought in the car. On the other hand, I do get the occasional flashing, but not very often.

I flash in hopes that perhaps they have just forgotten or otherwise don't realize they are blinding other drivers. If they ignore me, I'm no worse off - they were already blinding me. But most of the time they dim their lights and we're able to both motor away happily.

I still haven't figured out how people are clueless when they have no lights on at night.

Just make sure your lights are "ON".
Not to laugh at anybody, but i have met folks that had their daytime running lights on....and not their lights...resulting in no tail lights....very dangerous.

Nothing pisses me off more! i was behind a guy that had no tail lights and was totally DRL'ing and flashed him and he just went on like nothing and this was on the freeway!

so i look behind me and notice a state cop in my rear veiw mirror and calmley move to the right and let nature take its course!

i must of laphed for about a quarter of a mile! he was driving slow and was probably baffaled as to why he was getting pulled over!

Yeah, they do. Then I turn on the high beams so they know what high beams really look like.
