Best way to cut plastic?

Hey guys... I just bought myself some coilovers, and plan to go very low. The "wind deflector" (no idea what it really is) is limiting the amount of lowness I am able to achieve. I would like to cut this, but don't know the best way to and I don't want to accidentally cut something that isn't supposed to be cut.

Is there a way to take this piece off?

I have used a hacksaw to cut the first part of it to about 3/4 of the way, but am afraid I will cut something. Any suggestions?

Thanks! And happy holidays.

For that pice I just used a good sharp and sturdy box knife. Give it a little pressure and run it all the way down the seam. Dont try to cut it all at once, make a couple passes, and it comes off nice an perdy like.

Those look like a whole bunch of little expansion clip thingies holding it on... If you stick a putty knife in between do they pop out so you can remove the whole deflector?

I scrape mine all the time with factory JCW Aero and I am at stock ride height. Not sure how people manage with JCW or other lowered suspension.

Dremel is the simplest...
Box cutter is cheaper...but a bit harder to do cleanly....and easy to need a few stitches...

I think I'm gonna try that box cutter idea... no need for a fancy dremel tool (though it would be nice).

Yeah, I scrape all the time with this thing lowered just 1.5". It'll be nice to get rid of it... plan to be about less than 1" off the ground when I get finished with it all!

I'll try the box cutter tomorrow and let you all know... thanks for suggestions.

Why cut it when you can just pop off the plastic pins holding it on? A whole lot easier and less time at the emergency room. Plus if you decide to raise the car back up, you can always put it back on.

Well you can't tell, but hidden behind the part you can see in the picture is a piece of plastic where the clips clip in to. If I were to just take those pins out and take the part showing off, I would only gain about 1" out of the 3" I gained from taking it all off. Once you took this part off, you still had a piece remaining. I took a picture to show it:

Anyways, I got the piece off. It was extremely tedious and took about an hour. (This was factoring in the fact that it was 30 degrees outside and 2 in the morning, and I was working with only a flashlight and a hacksaw- which worked very well btw). I am NOT good at being patient- whenever I want something done, it needs to be done. Hence why I went out and did it in the freezing cold when I could have just waited for another time...

P.S.- there really is a purpose behind the "wind deflector", it is there to deflect wind from a piece under the car behind the deflector that is a little bit lower than the car's bumper and it is hollow, so if you were going highway speeds for a long while, I could see it MAYBE getting too much air trapped under it and causing damage to the piece. So I am going to get some black duct tape tomorrow and seal it up.

It's used to keep too much air from getting under the car increasing overall drag. Duct tape isn't going to help you, even if it is black.

It will prevent air from getting under the piece and causing it to break or come off, which is the only thing I'm trying to solve by using the duct tape.

Had to be done in order to go lower... labor of love.

Invest in a good Dremmel, it does come in handy for a bunch of projects.
