Adaptive Light Control defect?

Hi all,

I'm new to NAM! I just got a 2012 Cooper with basically every option on the catalogue and the adaptive headlight control in conjunction with the Xenon headlamps.
I know what it's all about and it follows the direction of the steering wheel to illuminate the corners as you drive.

My question is (at a standstill) in my parking garage, I saw that the right headlamp was moving pretty widely whereas the one on the left, directly behind my steering wheel when I turn in the opposite direction doesn't really move. It seems like it's not really opening the corner as the other one does.
I was wondering if both headlamps were acting the same or does it have to do with being on my side of the car so unnecessary to open so widely? (thinking in the UK for example with the steering wheel on the right, the same issue happens for the right headlamp?)

I'd really appreciate if anyone with the same option could look it up and tell me if I'm the only one to encounter that. I'm already worried I'm gonna have to bring my new baby for a repair! :(

Other than that, best car I've ever owned.

Thanks NAM friends!

It is so that you do not blind oncoming traffic in a turn.

I haven't really noticed that issue, but then again I haven't really looked for issues either. Mine seems to work well - one of the best features of the car. We have a Mazda CX9 that also has HID xenon's, but no adaptive feature and even though the lights are bright, there is a difference in night driving, especially on curvy roads.

When you are stopped and turn the wheel to the right the lights will turn to the right. If you are stopped and turn the wheel to the left the lights will not turn to the left. This is so you can not be at a traffic light and turn your lights into incoming traffic. When you are moving and turn to the left the lights will turn to the left. If you are driving and turning to the left and stop in the middle of the turn the lights will go from left to center. Also, if you put the car in reverse the lights will go to center.

Thanks!

Thank you guys! I am sorry it took me a while to reply! Xmas break, you know!

I totally get what you all said. When at a red light, it does only move to the right but as I'm driving, I can tell the left headlamp moves as well and it makes perfect sense to avoid blinding people. I hear so many people hating us because of the intensity of the Xenon bulbs, I slightly feel better thinking we're not deliberately blinding them at the stop sign! haha

So far, I LOVE the car. It has this very impressive solidity feel to it, I just feel like I'm driving a tank and I am used to a MBenz SUV. I also feel like I'm driving from the inside of a cave with the anthracite headliner, it's such a cozy feel I seriously could move into my Cooper.

I'm seriously a happy camper!
