R56 Seat cover for dogs
Seat cover for dogs
Can anyone recommend one that would fit in our cars with the seat down? I know there is a place called Poochstyle that sells some and I've seen the MINI one, but those are a little pricy.
TIA
TIA
I used to use a black bed sheet to cover the rear seats and sides along with a thick towel on the bottom. After a while I fashioned holders out of alligator clips and suction cups from the dollar store. The suction cups would stick to the rear windows and the clips would hold the fabric up near the window to protect the plastic sides. it was cheap but a little bit of a pain to setup.
There are some generic seat covers available on amazon.com that look pretty decent and aren't too expensive. I remember seeing a few when I was searching last year.
I use a Poochstyle mat is it is honestly worth it for me - far nicer than the MINI cover. It looks great and is very convenient. Plus they are a NAM advertiser/supporter.

I use an old twin-size comforter and a discounted pet mat for SUVs (my father uses it in his truck as well) that I picked up at Marshall's.
I think it all cost around $10. Most people find it hard to believe my dog even fits in my car, but he does fit in there pretty well with the seats folded down.

Since I just got the car, I'm not sure what I'll use yet. Was originally thinking about doing a rear-seat delete, but am curious about the setup Poochstyle offers. Speaking about dogs, does anyone know of any rear bumper sill protectors? My last car's bumper took a beating from the dog's nails. My wifes Subaru has a nice rubber strip that protects the bumper. Thanks.

I saw a posting on here just last night, but it was an old one and I can't find it now, where the guy said he made a template of the cargo area with the rear seats down and took it to a carpet place where they cut a small remnant piece of carpet to the template, and finished the edges and it cost $50. Sounds like a great idea and you also have the advantage of choosing what color you'd like from the pieces the store has lying around. I would think that if you used a foam backed carpet it might not shift around, but in any case, since it's fitted to the space, it's going to shift around a lot less than a blanket.

I have dogs who love to swim, so I need more than a cloth layer or the doggy water seeps through into the carpet, but I don't want to drop the money on a custom or OEM cover. So I do a shower curtain layer and then a large towel. It's a Countryman, but I assume the principles will still apply to a hardtop.
Here's a blog entry outlining the whole process. If you pick up the towel on sale at your local big box store, the whole thing costs less than $20.

I need to find a rear seat cover for when the seat are up. I tried the Covercraft Pet Pad which is 48" x 58"s which is just to large. Which is strange I have this same Pet Pad in my 2012 Fiat and it fits great.

I like the Poochstyle mats, especially with the fold-over flap that protects the bumper. In practice, though, I found a problem -- when I go to unload the dogs (we're at the dog park and they're excited to get out), I can't get the bumper covered in time -- as soon as the hatch is opened, they're out. (Allow space for Caesar the Dog Whisperer to tell me that I need training, not the dogs).
The good news is that they only seem to rely on the bumper when jumping IN and I can block them until I cover it. Jumping out they tend to jump over the bumper and onto the ground.
I still think I'll still go with a bumper protector. There's a British company that has really nice ones and sells them (reluctantly) to US customers. Can't think of the name at this moment.

I just got my dog bed in my (New to me) 08 MCS. http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...ner_liner.html It works great and so far my dog loves it. It did cost a lot but it fits great and I like my dog just as much as my mini. They did have an option for a pad that goes in the boot area, but I couldn't spend another $100. I went to hobby lobby today and bought some pads that cost me $20 and put that under. I like how it has a flap that goes over the bumper. Just for reference my Aslan is about 90lbs.

My order for Poochstyle just came in the mail yesterday. My car is riding the ocean, so I put them back in the box for safe keeping and to keep them from all the house fur! After vacuuming the cargo area of my Clubbie while rubbing it all with a latex glove (the best for getting all that imbedded fur out) for well over an hour, I decided it was time to get a little more protection. In the Clubbie, I just used a blanket that I would fold in half and cover the seats and cargo when down, they never rode in the rear seats.
With a beagle and a german shepherd, the hair is quite abundant and I wanted to protect my new car (a Cooper) from the start. Plus I like the side protection with the Poochstyle mats, my beagle tends to try and stand on the armrests and scratch at the windows/doors. I ordered both the cargo and the backseat covers for options (plus I think my shepherd would love riding in the back seat) and got 10% off my order for ordering both at the same time! The cargo area came with the folded extra mat that takes up the uneven boot space in the Cooper. The back seat cover came in it's own storage bag. Included were also biscuits for the doggies and a hand written note thanking me for my business.
I can't say enough about Juliana at Poochstyles. She sent me samples all hand labeled. I just couldn't decide on a color for my new car and what would hold up the best, so when I got them I rubbed them all on my dog and the choice was easy!! Juliana also told me to call with any issues or questions, told me how they could be custom made to my liking, what would work and what would not due to fabric type and even emailed when she thought I was having trouble placing my order. She notified me when she put my order through (we were having a hard time getting the discount to correctly apply, which she has since fixed), and she emailed me when my order was complete and shipped. She is beyond nice and, yes, they may be a bit expensive, but they are handmade to order for you by her. I would rather support an independent owner with spectacular customer service any day!! And from what I can see, the quality looks great!
I will post pics as soon as my car is here!!

I keep a brand new smaller size (don't know off the top of my head) movers blanket in the car. When I need it, I fold the seats down, lay the blanket lengthwise in the space with enough hanging out of the hatch to cover the rear bumper. When the dogs are loaded in, I just flip the extra hanging out back into the trunk, close it, and I'm off. One inexpensive item protects the interior, the bumper, and adds a small measure of comfort.

Had to make a unexpected trip out of town for a sick family member. Not sure how long we would be gone, we were driving East but things were heading south. Anyway, our beagle had to make the trip. Seats down, soft bags in the back...he was gonna be on the seat backs for a while.
So I grabbed two old pillows and stitched them together on the wife's sewing machine. tossed a sheet over it and loaded him up. He laid up on that thing like the pharaoh there and back.
We still use it. Good traction in the corners, lumpy puppypile on long trips. Happy beagle.

Alright you "fur rubbers": what material did you choose?
How to choose between the indoor/outdoor (which I'd imagine is "slicker", so it'd clean up easier), and the cotton (more colors-patterns, but doghair would cling to it...maybe that's a good thing, it then wouldn't be clinging to my MINI).
What did you choose, and how's it working out? We have one or more champion-shedder German shepherd dogs who love to travel, it'd be nice to have *one* car that doesn't bear their hair "signature".
Thanks for any help!

I choose the "espresso raffia" colour... I found it hides the fur and small amounts of dirt well and also tends to "hold on" to the fur so there isn't as much hair flying around the car. I don't find it terribly difficult to clean up with a vacuum or throwing it in the wash. I also had a sample of the plain black fabric but it just didn't work for me.

I still need to vacuum the car regularly but not nearly as often as before. This pic was from my Cooper, it looks even better in my JCW with the anthracite roof liner. I also tend to brush the dog before a ride because I can't stand the black interior getting dirty!

Great feedback, thanks!
That'd be my aim as well, less hair remaining, so having it cling to the fabric is indeed a good thing!
Our big boy is so great to travel with, and he loves going, it'll be nice to be able to bring him along to MINI events!
