Connected features that require cradle?

Hello
I just got my mini a couple of weeks ago and besides absolutely enjoying driving it I have a newb question

I got the nav/connected option and was really looking forward to Mission Control and MINIMALISM Analyser. When connected via the Y cable the system states that it needs to be in the cradle for those apps to work. Has anyone gotten them to be enabled and function without using the cradle?

If those apps indeed need to have the phone in the cradle to work shouldn't that be listed somewhere before one purchases that option since now that incurs another ~$200-~$250 cost?

Thanks for any insight

First let me say congratulations on the new MINI.

Second there is a NAV and AUDIO section here that has a lot of information about the MINI Connected, any questions you have should really be directed there as that is where anyone with a second Gen car can go about MINI Connected in their car. The model subforums are viewed mostly by people that have that model and thus you may be missing out on the insight of people that have a different model but have the same exact option as you have which are the same in all models.

But see below to answer some of you questions

I do agree with you that it should be stated in much plainer english what is needed to get all the different options working. but I do believe that it is stated on some piece of paper somewhere exactly what is needed to make each option of MINI Connected work. The real problem is that dealers in many cases have not idea what is needed and many probably don't even know what brochures are available for customers.

MINI dealers just received a bulletin stating that with the release of the Apple iOS5, the MINIMALISM Analyzer, Mission Control, and Dynamic Music functions have been reestablished via the standard Y-Cable. The snap in adaptor is no longer necessary for these functions to work.

Thanks for the responses, I wonder if the latest update to the Mini app that I've heard about is what enables this

Its good to know I wasn't going nuts and just overlooking something basic.

On a side note, I used the Mini configurator off the main site, it would have been ideal if when adding the mini connected option that it would have highlighted there the need to have the cradle. This would help augment the dealers and salespeople who may or may not know all options and such
