Slight Buzz When Using Connected

Anyone else getting a hum from the driver's side tweeter when using the plug-in with MINI Connected? Noticed it yesterday.

If you turn the volume **** to the right, that noise will go away.

I have it too. I think it's interference from the all of the data being sent along with the audio for the screen interface. I've noticed it's not there if you run the audio through the CD/Multimedia option. But the UI on that just blows. Who ever designed that has no common sense.

i Concur with both of those...i notice a louder "buzz" when a track is playing with album art than without (thus more data)...i'm thinking the cable is not well shielded. I wonder if people with aftermarket cables they bought for better placement have the same issue. Anyone?

(and yes, the CD/MM interface is horrible!!)

I haven't noticed a hummm. I have notice that my cable needs to be reconnected frequently - no matter how secure it looks/feels. Usually, this gives a not connected message, but a hum is also possible with a bad connection. Might be an easy give it a try option.

Sealy - Who used to get a slight buzz and would feel connected - to the sun, the moon, the stars, the earth, the trees . . .

I thought it was the connection too; tried reconnecting an few times even restarting the application on the phone. Still a buzz. Not loud but it's there.

Folks, your cars are still under warranty so take it back to the dealer. They need to resolve it.

I have found that sometimes you have to check both ends of the cable. Quite a few of my buzzes and hums have come from the AUX end coming slightly out of the port.

Thanks for the tip.

Mine in at MINI right now being looked at. Doesn't seem to be a problem when connecting through the CD Aux, just when using CONNECTED. Also, have to turn the volume up much higher to hear the music - maybe it is a connection issue with the MINI Connected & the buzz is feedback. I'm sure they will figure it out for me.

Besides, time for an oil change and a bath anyway ...

I'm worried that the tech at the dealership will not have the ear to hear the buzz. Also, I don't want to leave my phone there so they can test it.

the input level might be too low, i had the same experience. ipod sounded fine through a regular cable but much quieter with the usb. it was defaulted to the lowest level when i got mine and was very happy to find that i could change that setting.

i dont have connected but it made a huge difference with my ipod on the HK, it just shows up as "level" with the other sound controls, but it wasn't obvious at first, i actually had it too high and was getting a little distortion from some of the lower quality mp3s, about 3/4 up sounds good

i've also noticed that the minijack part of the usb cable doesn't have the greatest fit and occasionally pushing it in to improve the contact helps because over time it will work its way out to the point i'll only have one set of speakers! maybe i'll get that looked at....

Took the car in last week. The tech noticed the buzzing sound as well. He said he would contact MINI for followup. Been about a week, no response. Mentioned to the service manager, no response.

Here is the offical response from the dealer:
The vehicle we had in the shop with MINI connected sounded the same as your vehicle. I also had a customer with a Countryman and connected in the other day and same condition. It appears this is characteristic of the system at this point. It does not mean that a fix/update will not be coming out and if I see any bulletins or get any word from MINI, you will be the first person I contact. I apologize for the results that I found.
So fellow R60 ownders, now what?

My dealer had said the same thing when I brought it in... "It's normal", hopefully someone will come up with a software fix for it! My solution to fixing it was to add a really loud exhaust

You should try a better shielded cable. In a car, standard cables are more susceptible to electrical interference.

Called and spoke MINI USA. They said I had to get the dealer to resolve the issues and they would contact the service department at the dealership to see if they have even sent the issue on to corporate. Anyone have any recommendations about where to take the complaint next? Obviously I am not the only one with the problem.

I do not have Connected but do have the HK. I notice a slight buzzing/humming sound when I have the stereo off, even if the fob is not in the ignition. It will go away but then come back. I'm not sure if its the same thing you all have been talking about but it's really weird.

Yup that's what we've been talking about.... Doesn't seem to bother me as much anymore for some reason.

My main concern is that the buzz will drain the battery.

For those that have Connected, have any of you been using it with the iPhone4S? I have the 4 now, and my MA said not to upgrade because folks have had issues, but I would like to have the extra capacity of the 4S. Anyway, if you wouldn't mind sharing your experience I would love to hear it.

I've had 3 different 4S's hooked to my car, running all features and they all work the same as the 4... No issues whatsoever

Time to upgrade my friend!

It's official, a ground-loop isolator will solve the buzzing. Now I need to find one that can handle both audio and video. Any ideas?

I'm not so sure about that because it also happens when I have it on Satellite radio and CD and when the system is on mute.
