R58 Driving the S Coupe.
Driving the S Coupe.
In addition to how great it looks it would be neat to hear about the flying experience of the S pilots out there in Minispace. I'm tickled about how smooth it runs, how powerfully it moves and how great it sounds. I feel more confident when I'm driving....and especially when driving FAST. The Pocket Rocket never lets me down.

I currently drive a MINI Copper S (R56) and am waiting on my Coupe'r S. My previous ride was an IS350 and I was totally impressed with the Cooper S and don't miss my IS one bit.
I will report on the difference I feel between the R56 and R58 once I stake delivery... *glares at MINI*

I drove the Coupe S at Midwestern Auto Group's Motor-tober event. I was mainly interested in seeing the Coupe first hand and and getting a feel for what the Roadster might feel like when it arrives. Right now I'm driving an '07 Cooper S, so that's my frame of reference.
I didn't really wind it too hard out of respect for the low miles on the odometer and the local populace, but overall I liked the experience. The car does feel a bit more planted with its lower center of gravity and torque steer is more under control. The extra weight wasn't noticeable although the car did feel very solid.
The new clutch is too soft and vague for my taste but I had no problem adapting to it and it didn't cause me any problems. I didn't hear or feel any of the odd clutch noises that some have reported.
While I like the looks of the Coupe, I'm not sold on the idea of making the car heavier and more expensive while giving up some utility just to get that rakish profile. I came away from the test drive somewhat less concerned about the extra heft but if I'm giving up utility then I think a roadster would be a better pay-off. Unfortunately the Coupe didn't convince me that a two seater MINI (Coupe or Roadster) would be a good substitute for a rear drive sports car.

The Roadster will be even heavier, more expensive, and have worse visibility. With the top down, there just won't be much to distinguish it from the Convertible.
You pointed out several of the benefits of the Coupe (more planted, lower center of gravity, very solid), then say that we're paying only for a rakish look. If one doesn't need/use the rear seats, giving them up for extra storage space is a plus, not a negative.
With the extra performance, unique looks, and scarcity of the Coupe, it's a big improvement over the R56 to me.

I can count on one hand the number of times some one has sat in the backseat of my Cooper in almost 6 years of having it. But there have been many times I would have preferred more cargo room. Certainly folding the seats down gives you some extra room though...but sometimes it's nice to have it hidden away. So for me it is definitely a plus.
My car rocks in every way. I have 425 or so miles on it and it is nothing but torque in every gear, comfort, speed, great handling, the H & K rocks right out of the box. The Satellite radio works great. I am thrilled with my purchase.
The interior is quiet, not one rattle squeak or odd sound nothing. The engine sounds and runs great. The boot is cavernous and I don't miss the back seat on iota. It is a cut above the rest by a long shot.
I was seriously considering waiting on the 2013 Coupe but I am glad I did not. I think this car will be my all time favorite and I have driven a lot of pretty nice cars in my lifetime with a variety of HP ratings and configurations.
I like the way Mini did this car and my car is flat bitching. (Can I say that? Must have shown my age on that one. LOL)
I'll chime in again later when I get some more miles on Brewster. All I see is clear sailing.

My wife prefers the ride of the coupe to my previous Mini incarnations. While she isn't a youngster any longer, she never complains. Still, I appreciate knowing that as a passenger she's even more content.
I too appreciate the practicality of the boot space. There is a lot more of it without having to remove a vanity cover, lower the rear seats and pull them back up again....just more user friendly on a daily basis. I keep my donut spare inside and there is still more easily accessed cargo room.

Driving the Mini Cooper S
[QUOTE=TheGeekGuy;3386699]I currently drive a MINI Copper S (R56) and am waiting on my Coupe'r S.
Good grief! It's "Mini Cooper," and there is no such thing as a "Coupe'r S."
Perhaps you're referring to the color of your R56 and the new Mini Roadster, but I really don't know.

Hey look.. it's a guy who is being super technical with spelling on an internet forum yet can't properly use quote tags even after EDITING his post for punctuation issues. /sarcasm (Hell I can't even quote your post because you screwed up your own quote tags so I have to point to it just to reference your mistake)
Seriously?
You know he meant 'Cooper' and just misspelled it.
Likewise everyone has the right to nickname their car.. and yes the Coupe is in the lineup for MINI. You can go all you want and attempt to ignore the Coupe but it is there and you should just deal with it. He was just having fun and calling it a 'Coupe'r' as the R58 is called the Coupe.
The Roadster (R59) would not be the proper term as that is the Convertible Soft Top version which ships in February.

Pez, I was cracking up at that post. Holy cow. I'm not the most internet savvy guy in the world but If I am going to criticize someone I damn sure would do it in a proper manner to avoid looking like that.
Some people just crack me up. Heck when i first saw "Coupe'r S" I thought to myself, "thats's cool, wish I would have thought of it."
Some people just crack me up. But hey I got it and liked it. So there Runon MD1.
