Wow. Our cars are going to be very similar... my dks/dks arrives in NYC tomorrow and I've already got the chrome mirror covers ready to go! I'm going to hold off on the grille for now, though.

 

Thanks minitothemax! That looks very nice! Chrome and DS do mix well. I'll have to ponder this choice some more, but the pic is very helpful.

 

I want to point out that the chrome grille on that DS/DS in the photo belongs to a standard Cooper (It has 4 horizontal slats) and probably the owner of that car did it before MINI released the 3 horizontal slats chrome grille design specifically for the MCS. He also added R83 16" wheel rims also from the Cooper model. Seems to me he wanted a MCS but also intended to retain the Cooper look. I am surprised he didn't changed the bumper covers as well.

Early MCS owners wanting to get the chrome grille had to get a regular Cooper one and modify the clips to be able to fit it in the MCS bonnet. The new MINI OEM 3 slats chrome grille looks better as it goes better with the MCS front end.


I ordered my '04 MCS (CR/W) with the new OEM 3 slats chrome grille and MINI OEM chrome mirror caps and the car looks fantastic, so I highly recommend adding these. For the chrome grille I paid $97 for the parts (Upper grille and lower chrome bumper slat), $125 for dealer labor to have them install it (They have to remove the front bumper cover to replace the lower slat as it is held with double sided tape from factory) and paid $123 for the pair of chrome mirror caps which snap right in where the factory ones where (Beware of aftermarket chrome mirror cap imitations that use double sided tape instead of clips to snap into the mirror body assembly).

There is no "bling" factor to worry about. The MINI's design was meant to have chrome and the addition of the chrome grille and chrome mirror caps to your new MCS will be a tasteful addition. As a matter of fact I am the only one in my club with a chrome grille/mirro caps equipped MCS, so the car really stands out. A DS/DS is the perfect color combo to get these chrome bits.

Do it, you won't regret it! Also you can keep the original factory mirror caps and body color chrome grille. You can retrofit them at any time with the exception of the lower bumper slat that is held with double sided tape.
