My wife was promoted earlier this year and lost her company car – a Ford Escape. Work was nice enough to give her 8k (only 4k after taxes of course) for a new car.

We have a 2002 BRG cooper – this has been our fun car but mainly my baby
A 1961 mint Austin Se7en – this car only goes out for shows never in the wet
A 4 door Dodge Dakota – this is my work car I haul a lot scientific equipment

Marianne has been driving the Green Cooper but she feels like she wants a car that is mainly hers just like the truck is mostly mine. I asked what she wants and she said her own MINI. Of course I pointed out that we have two already and the Green one is both of ours and she should drive it. She pointed out that I am very protective of the cooper, or well to be more to the point lets say obsessed with that car and keep it spotless, park it way out in lots, try not to drive it real bad weather – well you get the picture.

Anyway she wants her own and I found a pepper white MCS that is loaded with every option except the navigation system. Valentines day is Saturday and I was going to surprise her with it then, have roses in it and a bow on top when we go to the MINI dealer to have the second key for the Cooper programmed.

This would mean we would be back to four cars for two drivers and three of them would be MINIs. Have we lost our minds?

again, if you dont - and i assume you dont - have any financial troubles with that, i say you have 100% not lost your mind

Unless you place an item of jewelry in the glove box, the MCS wll not count as a Valentine present.

Valentine presents for women must have absolutely no utilitarian value.

PS - This time last year we owned 8 cars - yep - granted 2 of them were our kids - so that would make 6 for us.....what can I say - we love to motor! The only reason we only have 3 now is because we moved across country...

NO! Some of you guys are just the best with secrets and surprises! When I was at the dealer getting work done on the MINI, there was a guy there buying a MINI for his girlfriend as a surprise. So no, you're not crazy. MINI has finally found a gift everyone would love!

Have a great Saturday!!!

You are not crazy. Your Se7en is a special interest car after all.

We are two drivers with two sedans (one is a company car).

And one MINI S and one 1969 Cadillac Convertible ( to better gauge the MINI's handling!

Regards,
Red

I hope that MINI comes with a culinary set with spatula in the glovebox and a new set of frying pans in the boot! I left out the broom because it does not fit in a MINI.

It looks like I am going to be the dissenting opinion.

Would the women on the board answer this for me?

If you said you wanted "Your OWN MINI" would you want
someone else to pick out the color and the options?

Would it really be your OWN MINI then, or someone else's?

I think a nice card with the dealer's phone number so she can
pick out the color and the options she wants will be much better.

Let us know how it turns out.

i dont see a problem, I have two mini's for me both MCS's, and a '89 GTA, now my wife has a PT cruiser, Subaru WRX Sti, and a Avalanche(yes its hers not mine) So we have 6 cars for two of us, now admittaly two are full race prep (one MCS and WRX), and one is a Show car('89GTA), that brings us down to three "everyday" cars, and with two small cars PT and MCS, we need a truck just to carry stuff, so anybody can justify anything, so i feel if its what she wants let her have it, and it is extra special being a gift... I say go for it!!!

If the other half knows her well enough, he SHOULD know what colors she likes
 Same goes for options IMO....

Chow!

Although that is a valid point, as a woman I would still be delighted with a mcs as a gift. Especially if the gift giver knew me well enough that he picked out everything I would want anyways. I like the idea and think it is a perfect valentines gift

Well from a woman's point of view that's a little tough. I mean I would love it if someone bought me a MINI for Valentine's day, however I know picking out your own car is part of the fun. However I think the surprise of it will make her look past that.

Thanks for the input everyone it makes me feel like I am doing the right thing. As far as picking out the car for her I thought I was real sneaky on that one. I had her build a couple of MINIs on the web and she picked out Pepper White and Chile Red. She said she had to have leather, the sunroof and heated seats. She told me that a S would be nice but she didn't need the power, but her eyes said she has the need for speed.

Anyway I think after a couple of casual conversations when we see other MINIs and the fact that our Austin Se7en is red it leads me to believe she likes Pepper White better. I believe the beige interior seems to be her choice because she always comments how distinctive our current beige interior is. I don't think she cares about the sports package but with both DSC and traction control I would think it would be a safer car to drive.

Hopefully she will be very pleased I will let you all know how it works out. I will take my digital camera and post some pics of her in her new baby and maybe one of me getting a great big kiss if all goes as planed.

Thanks again everyone for the input.

Well here is how it turned out.

I got to the dealer and the flowers where delivered on time the car prepped and ready to go. Chad the manager and Greg my salesmen helped me get everything ready for when I would take Marianne back around noon. We put the flowers in the back printed up some hearts and put them on the license plate, the night before I made Marianne a CD with a bunch of love songs and had it in the stereo. I had all the paper work done so all we would have to do is sign and go.

I told her that we were going to stop at the dealer real quick to look at a Mini I thought she might like. We drove up parked in back and showed her a white cooper out front and then told her maybe Chad had the S we had talked about somewhere we could look at. Of course Chad and Greg had the car ready under the car cover, as we walked across the showroom floor Chad walked over to the S and pulled off the cover to reveal her new car with the flowers in the back. Greg opened the boot and I took out her Valentines Day card and handed it to her. She was in total shock.

The next hour was one of the best in my life as I got the pleasure to watch Marianne get to know "Pepper" the MINI of her dreams. She loves everything about the car; it is exactly everything she wanted in a MINI. I think I can say that this whole thing came out better then I could of hoped for.

Here is a link to some pictures of our great Valentines Day.

Valentines day gift

PS I did get my big Kiss
