R50/53 Any interest in a Baltimore area MINI club?
We DO have DC Metro MINIs about an hour away, but I've seen a healthy number of MINIs right here in Baltimore and would like to gauge interest. Feel free to PM me or email me...
Thanks for the BW

Did Mid-Atlantic Minis turn into DC? If not, I know L. Mini started it out of Baltimore. PM her, I believe she still runs it. I'm a moderator on their Yahoo! board, but haven't visited it in awhile, so I don't know whats up.

I'll PM her today - thanks for the heads-up.

I guess we could do the sectarian thing - I just moved out to Catonsville. I have noticed a LOAD of MINIs in E.C. - an EB S, a VR Cooper, and a few others that I've spotted here and there.
We should do the Old Mill Bakery after a fun run through Oella some time - or better yet head out toward the Frederick watershed, there's a KILLER farm country backroad I've gotten to know quite well.

MartyR...what road near the Frederick watershed would you be speaking of?
I would suggest that if anyone is interested in some fine roads in the Frederick area, check out Backroads and Battlefields II in April...

Regarding DC Metro vs. Mid-Atlantic, these are the two heavily overlapping groups (at the 90% level) covering the Balto/Wash area. Mid-Atlantic includes some of the PA folks, while DC Metro includes Richmond folks. The URLs for the two are
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/MINICCANCC/ and
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mid-atlantic_minis/.
Here on NAM, take a look at the Mid-Atlantic bulletin board.
The DC Metro Mini group is actually a club and they have a web site at http://www.DCMetroMinis.org. Although things are in the middle of the winter doldrums, DC Metro Minis has an event about once per month.
The next 3 "major" area events are
Mar 28: Reservoir Dog Run II in CT/NY,
Apr 10: Backroads and Battlefields II starting in Frederick,
and on the May 1st weekend, the infamous Tail of the Dragon on the TN/NC border at Deals Gap.
Hope this helped -- Tom

While, you are definately more than welcome to start a seperate Baltimore area club, I'm not sure it's needed.
As Tom pointed out, DC Metro MINIs has members from PA down to Richmond. Our focus has been in predominantely the DC area because that's where people have been planning events. DC Metro MINIs relys predominantly on it's members to organize events, not it's board of directors. Despite numerous pleas to our membership for MD based events, few of our members have been willing to step up and plan anything. Sadly, Backroads and Battlefields while popular is more of an exception.
Also, keep in mind DC Metro MINIs is already an organized and operating organization, not merely a Yahoo e-mail group. This in it's own right has several benefits, with more in the works. One of the big things is that having such a large and diverse membership gives us leverage with ALL of the local dealers. Splintering the Baltimore members off significantly weakens that leverage, not just for DC Metro, but also for the proposed Baltimore group.
As a member of the DC Metro MINIs Board, let me say this. If you are a member of DC Metro MINIs and wish to organize an event in the Baltimore area you will have the full support of the organization.

Marty,
Let me know if you get anything going in the Baltimore area. I live in Olney, and W3IWI lives in Clarksville, and there are a couple others down this way. Sarcux is correct, Mid-Atlantic MINI's has been dormant for a while, but the Yahoo!! BB is still very active. If you get something going I will come and join the in the fun.

First, let me say that I have thoroughly enjoyed myself on not only one but TWO occasions with the DC Metro MINIs group, and am in NO way trying to be divisive. I have just seen SO many cars in the SW Balto area that I wanted to - more than anything else - get a feel for whether folks around these parts wanted to do more of an informal thing like a Sunday fun run and breakfast. I think DC Metro has fantastic events that never seem exclusive, just a tad far from us (close, geographically speaking, just a bastard of a drive to the Alexandria area most of the time). Certainly no intention of taking anything away from Mid-Atlantic or DC Metro, just more of a coffee-and-donuts job around Ellicott City every now and again
