How much is too much?

what are your opinions about how much people can mod their cars and still look good? Some people go nuts with their cars, while others ive noticed, prefer subtle mods. what do you guys think looks better?

Personally i had 17" wheels, viper stripes, aero grill, pull to inflate

Personally i think exterior wise i like a more subtle look, for example all i plan on doing to the exterior is wheels, blacking out the chrome, lowering it, rally lights and maybe a euro tail lights and also maybe the aero bumber only because they look more clean. as for the interior i like cars that look simple yet clean and different like dont go adding a bunch of unneeded accessories. Now when you mod your engine go all out on performance parts and a clean engine bay is always nice. personally i think performance parts are most important just because i would rather go fast then just sit around looking pretty. again this is all just my opinion and you should just do what ever you want to get your car to where you like the way it looks and performs.

Less is more. . .I like to keep it simple, a little sporty, but keep most mods under the bonnet. I have some vinyl, personalized plates, Matte Black Wheels and a couple of stickers, but those aren't the go fast parts.

Less is definitely more when it comes to aesthetics. IMO there's not much you can do to the exterior. A slight drop & good wheels and you're already set to go!

I really like the way my car looks (except for the big glass sunroof in the middle of the white). Unlike the majority here, I like the chrome. Probably since this is my commuter, and my real love is for vintage cars. All I've done on the outside was chrome side grills (forget the proper name), smoked side repeaters, smoked sidemarker / reflectors (blends in nice with black flares), and the garage door seal lower airdam addition. I definately want to get chrome cowl vent grills. I'm on the fence about the chrome bumper trim (early R50, that had the option of big chrome strip on rear, and two on front, around lic. plate), because that is a LOT of chrome. I definitely don't want the rings that go around the front markers and rear tail lights, though. I'm also on the fence as to the standard sport stripes in white (my car is BRG / white) and the grill mounted lights. I love the look on other people's cars, but it's a little too "look at me" for my tastes. I might do white (factory) wheels, though, which is probably just as bold. The car has the 16" S wheels (it's a sport package car) which I'll be relegating to snow tire use this winter, in favor of a set of Minilite inspired wheels (S-Lite, Rota RB, Crownspoke). I have unmounted (no tires) crownspokes sitting in my den now, but I am having second thoughts. I think 16" or even 15" suits the car better for the vintage look I'm going for.

Anyway, I am in the "less is more" camp for sure.

Honestly, I don't think it matters what I think. It's your car, you should do what you like to it so you enjoy it.

To answer your question though, I like things a little more on the subtle side, and I'll almost always pick function over form. Not too many stickers, not too low, and 17" wheels at the biggest. 18s may look good, but again, function over form.

I like the term OEM+. Stealthy is my choice over loud/very visable. At least from the outside....

I agree with most of the others that prefer the look or a sleeper, or just tasteful mods that really only another MINI owner would notice. That being said that is what MY taste, I also appreciate that other people want to take their cars in a different direction with crazy stance, colors, stickers, pickup mods etc. I only ask that the faster the car looks, the faster it should go.

there are some things to do to the exterior. on my mini i did viper stripes, carbon fiber roof, etc. i think the more important mods are under bonnet.

i really like how mine turned out. i see alot of mini's that have really neat styling though. for example, if i had an 02 or 03 cooper with lots of chrome i probably wouldve gone with these wheels instead

i also really like the blacked out look

I like both ends. I can appreciate the subtle sleeker closer to OEM visual modifications, but at the same time I also like splitters, big wings, and other more extroverted features.
