I am double posting this because the racing forum doesnt get much traffic:

I sent an email to the scca solo 1 director for the northeast and he promptly replied with this
"Ben,
The only classes that need a full roll cage are GT-1, open (convertible) GT, open Production, Formula and Special. All other classes can use just a roll bar, but a roll cage is highly recommended.
The roll bar specs can be found in the SOLO rule book. If you buy a prefabricated roll bar make sure that the state that it is SCCA approved.
Nelson"

Awesome service if you ask me. The question, where can I find a roll bar that does the least amount of mods to the interior but is still SCCA approved, and it near the Atlanta Georgia area? Bolt in would be best. If I get really serious, I will weld in a whole cage, but it still is a daily driver. I got vacation to kill so driving to pick it up 200 miles or so is an option.

Thanks
Ubercooper

I have just ordered a roll bar from "Autopower" unfortunatly they are on the west coast but the bar is made for the mini, it is also available with removable harness bar and diagaonal bar for $420 bucks. I have seen pics of it and after a lot of searching it was the best on I could find with no modifications to speak of.

That is interesting, as many times as I have been to the helix site, i never saw that. Makes me scared to find out the price, but that is one trick piece of kit.

I have the autopower bar installed with the removable cross piece. It is well made and fit perfectly. I powdercoated mine before install tho as the black paint is easily scratchable . I had to strip the car from the dash to the hatch tho it is a really involved install.

Autopower has been making good stuff for years.
The one I bought for my Volvo bolted in with now sweat, no muss-no fuss.

You might want to look into finding a local race car shop
to custom bend something up (if you're bux deluxe).

I'm curious about the Brey Krause Harness Bar on the bottom of the Helix link...
I'd like to see an installed shot of that....

Ubber...

There are a number of local shops in Atlanta that can build you up a custom roll bar... Ask arround at the next auto-x ... I would recomend someone specific but I have never had a roll bar made...

Shouldn't the harness straps go over the cross bar ?

maxmini - the roll bar looks very nice. Do you have any pics of where the rear facing bars attach? I'd like to see how much of the plastic needs to be cut there to mount the bar.

Thanks!

The Schroth harness is designed to work without a harness bar. I tried running it over the bar and the angle was too severe.

If you look at hte last picture you can see where I had a upholstery shop make up some " flaps " to cover the 1 inch wide split i cut in the side panel to fit around the bar. The fitting took a lot of trial and error but came out ok in the end.
