Run/Work
The event is run like a Test-N-Tune, line up in grid whenever you want and run as many laps as you want. Pull your car out of grid and take a break for as long as you want when you want. Take as many runs as you and your car please. Each competitor will be allowed a predetermined number of official runs. To make a run official, simply notify the starter that you want the run to count before you make it.
For each 12 hours you are registered, you must work two hours. Worker registration will be at the time of on site registration/check in. Competitors get to pick what time schedule they would like to work the course. Only a number of workers are allowed to work each allotted time frame, so first come first serve.
This event is a great oppurtunity to jump in someone elses car for a lap or ten. Be sure to ask the owner before you jump in it.
I'm still a n00b to AutoX myself, but SOOOOOOO looking forward to this. If you've ever been curious about trying AutoX, this is the time. At a 24 hour event, you can get as many runs as you can fit in.... or until your tires fall apart, whichever comes first. You will get a TON of seat time, which is perhaps the best mod you can do to a car (it transfers to new cars!!).

The event should be quite novice friendly, and there will be people (including several Mini drivers) to help you with classing or to ride along and give you instruction. Again... still a n00b... but I'll do anything in my power to help everyone out or find people to ride along with you or for you to ride along with.

If anyone is interested, the thread for it on the CCR forum is here

So I am a complete noob ... just purchased a 2011 JCW not to long ago.
Thinking of making a trip up to this event ... to introduce myself.
I am not a member or anything.
If I wanted to get some laps in... what is the requirements? Safety equipment needed? Is there a link with the requirements?

Thanks for the help.
If I can meet the requirements... I definately would be looking for a driver to give some tips and I could ride with for some laps.

The basic safety requirements..... working seatbelt... working brakes... battery tied down properly.... and a helmet. I'm going to wager with a new car, you have the first three! The club has loaner helmets you can use if you're not ready to spend the money on one yet, so you're good there.

For your first event, come a little early to figure things out. Luckily at this event, "A little early" means 9am and not the standard 6:30am. You can either pre-register or register on site, but even if you pre-register you'll have to check in and get a barcode to go on your helmet/windshield for them to scan with your class/number on it. Registration isn't always open as early as some people start arriving, so once you're there, you can go ahead and take everything loose out of your car. All the stuff comes out of the glovebox, take the spare tire off if you have one, take the little toolkit and carpet "board" covering it out of the boot, remove any wheel covers that cover your wheel bolts, and it never hurts to torque your wheel bolts properly to get it ready for tech inspection. Tech also likes for you to have your numbers on the doors already, and USUALLY has some tape you can use if you don't bring your own. Find the tech area, get in line, pop your hood, and they'll run through a cursory check of your car including the seatbelts, brakes, battery, and wheels. That's it for all the bureaucracy. Nobody really explains it to newbies, and I wish someone had given me a rundown of the process before I showed up to my first one and looked lost.... so bam... there you go!

After all of that is said and done, you're free to walk the course or just hang out and talk to people until the driver's meeting. Usually they'll have a few "novice walks" where one of the instructors will lead everyone around and give you tips on how the course flows, where you want to set your car up for various corners, etc. Then there's the drivers meeting where they'll go over the general "how the event is run" stuff.... and following that a novice driver's meeting to go over how to do cone calls, what work assignments mean, and to answer any questions you might have. After that... it's driving time!!

Look forward to seeing you there. Come introduce yourself. I'll be the nerdy redhead wearing either a Flying Lizard baseball cap or a Star Wars themed helmet. I'll mostly be co-driving my buddy's WRX for the event, but we'll bring my Mini out for some fun runs too.

OH! CRAP! Classing!

With the mods you have listed in your profile, I'm fairly certain you fall into STX class. SCCA class rules are a strange, strange beast... so you're probably best asking someone at the registration table what you need to do. What you'll want to do for your first event is run in the Novice index class. You'll compete against novices in all classes with that based on a PAX index. Basically your best time is multiplied by a number (0.824 for STX) to come up with a PAX time. That's what trophies are awarded based on. It's not the BEST system in the world for doing it, but it works fairly well.

Alright .. thx! Very helpful

Do they assign you a number... or we just create one? Blue masking tape good?

I have a Shoei x-11... Motorcycle helmet ... is this okay?

What is the proper torque settings. I think I have read other guys say 103lbs ... local shop says around 90lbs ...???

Thx

You pick a number. First come, first serve, though... and numbers are assigned to people that have already used them first. Yes, blue masking tape is fine, though the "neon green" 3M Masking tape is gaining in popularity. I think motorcycle helmets are fine as long as they're M2005 or better. At some events they mandate SA rated helmets instead of M rated, but I don't think this is one of them. And finally, I have my lugs at 90lb. It shouldn't matter too greatly... you just don't want them falling out on course.
