Only oil and filter change? Do we pay for the oil change? Would they do the V36 up-flash at this time if I asked?

I had my 10,000 miles servicing done a few weeks ago.

No charge for oil and filter change done at dealer.
I was charged for labor to remove my tower strut brace that was blocking access to the oil filter- rough cost about $25 in labor.

I asked for them to check my MINI for stumble and yo-yo and if needed to install v.36 software update. Due to my M7 plasma booter which was hooked up into my ignition wires the dealer refused to do anything. They claimed that the plasma booster is altering the ignition system and that they could not evaluate my car for stumble or yo-yo. So they did not check for stumble or yo-yo and therefore they did not update my software.

The remedy is for me to remove the plasma booster and make another appointment.

During the servicing they also did a corrosion inspection.

Next oil change is in 15,000 miles.

Bottom line- take off any mods that block access to the engine for normal servicing.

Does the plasma booster cause stumble or yo-yo? No not at all but it does hook up into the ignition wires. Earlier I had the Pilo ignition upgrade installed and I removed it to return to stock parts. They would have not allowed that part if I was complaining of stumble or yo-yo.

minihune,

OK, thanks for the information and tip. I will take off my BMP strut brace and intake just to avoid the hassle. I think I will ask them to do the v.36 too. I need to get the PCV hose done too.

i also had 10k svc done few weeks back along with other repair items- This was after installs by eric. I don't have strut brace but do have intake, suspension & pulley- no issue with dealer for oil change and no charge. they also replaced pcv hose

bgrpph,

I see, thanks for the additional info. Did you happen to get the V36 flash?

I just recently had my first scheduled maintenance but the computer indicated it at 9500 miles )
The service included R/R oil and filter, top off all fluids, and corrosion inspection...No charge!!

If your MINI does not have the stumble or yo-yo, I would not recommend the v36 update. It's an update, NOT an upgrade

Kohu,

I sometimes do have the stumble. The weird thing is it comes and goes - almost seems like it depends on which gas I put in. I think V36 would help me - hope I can convince the service guys that I need it.

Man it's hard to put the few more miles I need to get to 10,000 in Hawaii! In CALI I could take a nice drive and I would easily get 300 to 400 miles.

Yeah, I know. Back in CALI I could EASILY do 3000 miles in a month
Now that our MINI is no longer the third car, for some reason between the wife and I, it became the primarycar

i had bad bad for long while after I asked dealer to "upgraded" my software back in April- I had stumble every single time i took off right at 1900 rpms after the "upgrade" never had it before-
Convinced Glen to contact MINI & he did & sent my ECU back to NJ few months ago before dealers had V36. V 36 definitely fixed the stumble and car drives wonderfully no stumble at all-
Just had a great service visit today at MINI- Tony is just outstanding- They fixed about 8 minor items as requested with no issues and all got done. Are going to replace the cassette and sunroof glass to try to figure out my rattle when roof is open-

I was told by my SA that the dealership doesn't do upgrades to MINIs for v.36 unless there is stumble or yo-yo problem present. If you simply want the update of software the rough price is $150.

I see, well I hope my on-again-off-again stumble does it's thing when I take it in.

bgrpph -- i've got the stumble but havent taken my car in for fear of other unnecessary headaches. hmmm, if v36 fixed yours, i guess it "should" fix mine. you recommend going on a test drive with glen to prevent the typical "unable to duplicate" thank you for wasting my time work order?

Mini-T, I would definitely drop car off with stumble and have Glen ride with you.
I've actually good service when i ask Glen to come out to verify my problem- 1st visit for stumble they couldn't duplicate stumble on takeoff only on deceleration and Glen said it was the fuel injection & all bmw do that. I talked to him when i picked up my car and we drove around and showed him stumble on takeoff. I also drove around in two other showroom mini's with Darryl and they all had stumble. Glen called MINI on mainland and verified that they should send my ECU back for V36. Got car back a week later and stumble was gone (Glen went for ride with me again). I still have a slight hesitation on deceleration at 1900 but that totally annoying stumble on takeoff is gone and its smooth and so nice !
I'm assuming that the V36 they now install at dealer is same as i got few months ago- all on NAM say it works.
I've had better luck getting item fixed when I ask Glen to look at my problem when I drop car off & its written on work order that problem verified by shop forman. I don't do that for everything just items that i've tried already to have them fix and they didn't.
