R50/53 How do I get my MINI home?
I will be picking up my MINI in Salt Lake City (eventually) and have to drive it back home to Portland (772 miles as Mapquest calculates). I have read that MINI recommends keeping below 95 and below 4500 RPM's, but also not driving at freeway speeds for any great length of time. Anyone have an first-hand knowledge of this? Months away but want to be prepared.
Thanks

Not yet but I'm going to the Utah dealer as well from Colorado. I'll be driving back -- it'll be a good chance to get some breakin miles. Just make sure that if you subscribe to the break-in theories, that you vary your speed and change gears while on the highway. Take some detours and backroads every few hours.
I can't wait! Well, I have to. I'm at least 4 months out.

I see they offered you the INDI Blue! Are they (UTAH) offering anything else for the 2003 model? I have been in contact with them the last few days getting my deposit and order squared away and found out that the only options I can order on my MINI are what's on miniusa.com. I talked to my sales rep about the new confurator and how it had all these options I wanted...and she had no idea about the new configurator. I burned a copy and mailed it to her...I'm sure she'll enjoy it. I was trying to add R90's, grille lamps, mud flaps, etc., and she said 'Nope, all after market stuff'.
All you sucka's coming to Salt Lake to get your MINIs... terrible.
When do you come from Portland to get your MINI? Not during the Winter I hope... as the roads around here are FILLED with rocks and crap that will chop your MINI up. All is good during the summer type months though.
If your interested in hauling your MINI out. I shipped a MINI via "Hog Haulers, Inc" from here to Seattle last May. They use enclosed trailers that keep your car very safe. They normally pass through Portland too. Just an idea.

Picked up my MCS in Roseburg (driver lived there and it was "pick it up Saturday morning in Roseburg or wait until tuesday evening for a PDX delivery). When I drove it back, I simply varried between 4-5-6th gears while driving. Slow to 45, punch back up to 70. Also would take about every other exit and just come to a stop and then start back up. Rest areas are good for this, too. Just don't drive like a drone. Change the gears/speed every so often.

I did a lot of highway driving on my first day yesterday. What I did was vary my speed say from speed limit to +15. So in the 65mph zones, for example, I went between 65-80. I also used 3 gears - 4,5 & 6. So I might spend 5-10 minutes at 65 using all three gears - each for a few minutes. Then I would go 75-80 in the left lane for a while using 5th and 6th gear. I'm certainly not an expert in this area, but I think this is a good way to do it.

Just to second what greatgro already said
The only guidelines are under 4500 rpm and under 95 MPH
I drove back from Westchester MINI in NY to Denver (1778 miles - actual/not mapquest
), but changing gears (4/5/6) and varying speed from about 65 to 90 it is totally possible to vary the engine RPM, stay under 95, and stay under 4500 rpm, while not sitting at any one RPM level for too long.
No big deal.

I was able to place an order for all factory items from them, including the HK system and auto-dimming mirror/rain wipers. I'm tempted to wait for DVD Nav but noone knows when it will be released.
The other items ARE dealer items. The guy said don't even worry about it for a few months. After we get a production number then we can talk about dealer options like the alarm and roof rack.
Fairly nice people.

HighAnxiety -
What does Hog Haulers charge for delivery and how do I get in touch with them (when the time comes)? That sounds like a good alternative to trashing it via rock, salt, snow and ice.
