tire cupping
Besides rotation and proper inflation, what could cause this? I have just over 15,000 miles and the tire that was on the rear driver side has cupping on the inner treads. I have rotated my tires 3 times since I bought the Mini and try to keep the tires inflated to 32psi. I noticed a vibration and noise about two weeks ago so I took it in for an early rotation and balance, first time balance, and that was when the problem was found. All but one tire was perfectly balanced and it was said to be barely off.
Is your car lowered? I was under the assumption that I didn't need an alignment after installing H-Sport springs but I was wrong. I was getting some pretty bad cupping out of the driver's rear tire even after rotating every 3K and keeping tire psi at 33 all around. There is still a toe adjustment in the rear which was off and both fronts were off as well. I'm not sure how this would apply to a stock suspension but just something to consider if you have lowered your car.

Cupping is usually a sign the toe alignment is out. I'd get it checked asap. If cupping is too bad, you may want to consider getting new rear tires or, if the cupped tire has ample tread, some shops can "Turn" the tire like a lathe to take off the high spots.
