questions on a few classics.

Hello gents,

New to the forum, i'm in the market for a classic mini. I found a few in the area and was seeing if you could give me some insight on which one is worth looking at. Also if you can see anything just from looking at the ads that catches your eye.

I would advise against the fuel injected Mini. They can be difficult to diagnose problems and expensive to repair here in the US. That being said, a fuel injected mini can be converted to run a carb if you so desired.

Personally, the Mini built in Kent looks appealing. It looks like a very classy build. A lot of $$$ though ...

Good luck,
Jeff

Yeah, the gent is actually posting it for sale via a dealer. I think he might be the ower he was asking 24K for it the price has now dropped to 21K. Seems a bit high for a completely gutted rally car.

#1 the one thing that bothers me is they say it is a 1972 Cooper

but the Cooper was only produced from 1961 thru 1971 (until the mock Coopers of the 90's) so what do we really have here? And the 12 inch wheels say this is a car later than 1972 unless modified (but we KNOW it is modified) $12k is not way out of line IMHO

#2 ... the three dial dash tells me later car, and there are the mods to the dash (see the extra toggles?). But if you trust the engine build descriptions . . . .and subsequently being featured on the cover of Mini World magazine .. when? I have a bunch of back issues

#3 "I have an AWESOME 1976 Austin Mini Cooper S with a 1995 Fuel Inject Engine" well the build dates of the true Cooper apply again and anything with an injected engine is certainly a later car cuz WHO would do all the work to put a computer controlled engine into a wiring loom that wasn't set up for it? And you have a MK1 front end on an engine with a/c. The round grill and mustache is not correct for a 76 either. (don't get me wrong, my car has many of these same discrepancies, but I would call them out & not dance around the issue) Seller also can't spell worth a damn . . .
