Interior/Exterior Gauge setups
Gauge setups
I want to get some aftermarket gauges/pods. i like the setup that they offer were you have a gauge to the left and right of the tach. I wanted an A-pillar cluster but apperently that doesnt work out. So does anyone have any pics of their gauge setups? if so please post, id like to see how some of these setups actually look in the car.
I have a scangauge II.
Don't have a pic handy but it plugs into the OBC plug below the hood release, then up to the gap below the stearing wheel column where the excess cord is twist tied together and jammed in the gap. The remaining cord winds around the right side of the stearing wheel column and is jammed in the gap, goes up to the tac, and then wraps around it counterclockwise leaving the plug just sticking out from behind the left side of the tac. Finally, the scangauge, with its socket on the right is plugged in and velcroed to the plastic silver dash piece to the left of the tac.
The gauge, cord and all rips out very easily, in about 10 seconds, if I park in a strange place and wanna put in the glove box. Not sure you could do a much better job hiding the cord.

These are Marshall's gages made to match the MINI's tach and speedometer.

I made the bracket and gage pods myself.

How thick was the bracket material you used and what kind of material???
Here is what I did, http://www.mini4fun.info/09_MCa_Gaug...6_Photos..html but on my 2011 I think making my own might be the way to go because of the dashboard interference.

Dave! Nice setup
Does the bracket hit the dash padding with the steering wheel in the UP position?

The guage pods are 2" ABS sewer pipe, that I polished to match the black semi-gloss I painted the bracket with. The guages fit the inside of the pipe perfectly.
Two of the knurled nuts that came with the guages, on the right, touched the dash padding, so I only used one nut on each of those guages. I put a couple of those vinyl protectors from the hooks of a bungee cord to cover the exposed threaded mounting studs.
The shape of the bracket is the result of 4 tries making cardboard templates.

Thanks Dave! The gauge pods I used were the same size as the 2"abs plastic pipe caps so the rear could be covered easily. The set screws came in from the side of the gauge pods and friction fit onto the Marshall gauge barrels and had nothing to do with the rear of the gauge. I cut off the threaded posts flush with one nut remaining on the gauge; seems to work great!
The Cravenspeed gauge bracket is to thick and the standoffs on the rear of the tach housing are to long so when I get time I will remove and grind down the "A" bracket and shorted the "Standoffs" so the "A" bracket is about a paper thickness off the tach and that might make the Cravenspeed system work.
Thanks for your input!

Has anyone used a single gaugepod that sits on the dash?? I was thinking of one of those and putting it on the dash or underneath my toggles. Or the vent pod is pretty cool but I don't know how that would work out in Texas haha
Warning, don't put gauge mounts on airbag surfaces. Kuda make surface mount gauge holders. Keeping the gauge in the line of sight is a good thing, unless the gauge is combined with an alarm feature to draw your attention to it if it registers an unusual reading.
