The engines are completely different between the R53 and R56. You couldn't just take the turbo system (exhaust manifold, intake plumbing, intercooler, etc.) and stick it on an R53. From a lot of your other posts, you seem really interested in having the turbo sound, such as a blow off valve. I don't know why you care so much about that, but to each their own. If you want to turbo your R53, prepare to spend a good amount of money.

Bummer about your R56 man! I lost my first 2006 R53 back in January. Picked up another one a month later though. The engines aren't even comparable, besides having the same displacement. They're not even made by the same companies. The R53 utilizes, basically a Chrysler motor, whereas the R56 uses a Prince motor. The R56 utilizes direct injection, as opposed to port injection on the R53. Not to mention the heads are opposite of each other. The R56 has the exhaust manifold at the front of the motor, whereas the R53 is on the backside of the motor. They are just completely different engines.
There are people that have turboed the R53, but from what I have read, it's mostly a custom job.

+1 Other than being 1.6L, the engines have nothing in common. Yours is from a Tritec from Brazil, and is a rework of another engine from Chrysler. The R56 uses a 'Prince' engine which was designed from ground up by Peugeot.

Unfortunately a turbo/twurbo R53 MINI is something that would end up costing you more than just selling your MINI and buying a R56. The R53 is cheaper because it's older. You can paint stripes on your horse, but he still won't be a zebra.

You couldn't afford a 2011 but you want to put a turbo in an R53?

Then you can't afford to put a Turbo into an R53.

All that money you waste trying to make an R53 into an R56...you could have upgraded the R53 into a Supercharger monster!

Totally a different beast....
mechanically, I bet they do not share more than maybe a hoseclamp...
It was said before, but just could not resisit.
gen1 iron alloy bllock, made in brazil....low tech, conventional..pretty strong...lots of margin for mods...capable of some truely amazing hp with relilabilty when done right.
gen2 french desgined (in part) motor....alloy...higher tech..more highly engeneered, less margin for doing much before boom!!! Simpler to get the first few hp out of....but limited by other desgin limits...

I know turbos are cool but considering you already have an r53 why not go for that badass blower whine?

The power is a nice side effect too
