Water Pump + Belt Find

I would guess I am not the only one with an R56 in need of a water pump as they seem to fail quite often. Mine started leaking at 51k.. right after my warranty expired. It doesn’t leak a noticeable amount at all, never puddles; but I have noticed the level getting lower so it is leaking just not by much.

Well BMW says sorry warranty is up we cant help you, obviously I didn’t expect much help but I figured I would ask and see if they would help me out or split it with me. Yeah no.. haha. So they quote me like ~$580 parts and labor. I take their quote and leave, I start to wonder how hard a mini water pump can be. Sure its in a hard to reach place but its just like any other car.

All in all I am going to do it myself, and I was out looking for parts – 11287566789 (Belt) + 11517550484 (water pump). List is about $164 for these pumps and around $30 for the belts. So almost $200 in parts. I then found DDMtuning has the parts I need for much less!!

Water Pump - $114.38 - http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/11...TER-PUMP115019

Belt - $19.23 - http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/bm...rt-11287566789

So $133 + shipping put me at $148 which is still under the cost of the pump alone.

Just thought I would pass some savings on.

Thanks for the info!

A DYI with pics would be nice if you have the time. I just had mine replaced by the dealer under warranty but it would help in the future.

My water pump failed big time at 48,000 miles just as I was about to take a trip to Florida. Ralph Schomp in Denver repaired it under warranty and told me that the 2008 pumps were a common problem. Not sure if I got an upgraded pump or not. They replaced it by going into the right wheel well. They fixed the timing chain tensioner while they were in there as well. Good luck with your repair, and let us know how difficult it was.
