Sprint Booster Initial Impressions, '06 R50

Hey all, rather than revive an ancient thread I thought I'd start a new one, hope that's alright.

Just received my Sprint Booster that I purchased from Eurosport Design through the Group Buy. The installation was pretty simple, although I did have a bit of trouble getting the unit "neatly arranged" behind the pedal and also with snapping the pedal back in place. It's tight quarters down there and I am not a really big guy. However, after fifteen minutes or so I had it all sorted out.

It really does work as advertised. Throttle response is greatly improved, downshifts and rev matching are smoother and easier, and it simply feels faster. I have read some speculation that the same can be accomplishIed by "just mashing the pedal harder," but the effect is simply not the same. Trust me, I certainly tried that before spending the money.

The biggest difference is coming back on the throttle out of a corner. I have only taken it for a short drive, but on a few corner exits the revs came back up much faster than was previously possible, making it easier to come out fast.

I find "race" mode to be too twitchy for driving in traffic, but Sport mode is perfect.

Thanks to EuroSport Design for arranging the group buy and for shipping out so fast, and thanks to all of NAM for the spirited discussion on this product that made me curious enough to try it!

I agree. I bought mine through the group buy also. It worked great up at the Dragon last weekend.

Going on 3rd year with the older version.....an awesome bang for the buck mod right up there with pulley, and thicker rear sway bar.

I'm not positive but you may be able to still cash in on the current one with Eurosport Design. Drop them a message. Sales@EuroSportDesign.com

Agreed, I love my sway bar as well! Mod budget is blown now, so I'm glad I went with lighter wheels, CAI, 19mm bar, and Sprint Booster. Really transformed the car from a peppy grocery getter into something much more fun and sporty.

They didn't want the group buy price publicly posted, but if you email they will give you the details. It was a good price IMO.

After awhile, you will find that race Mode is fine all the time. Just have to work up to it.

You may be right.. I was just thinking this morning that I seem to have gotten used to Sport and may need to bump it up a notch.

I had a Sprint Booster installed yesterday while the car was in for front sway bar upgrade and oil change. The moment I pulled out of the parking lot I felt something that I have always wanted to feel from my car, especially with all the mods we have. Now it's pure power, none of the hesitation I felt off the line, just get up and go and does he go now! I will probably use the sport mode because we are city dwellers but it's nice to know that the race mode is there. For anyone that is looking for that one review that seals the deal, make this the one. And for those that feel the Sprint Booster is to "twitchy", you're probably best off in the slow lane.

I just installed my Sprint Booster at AMVIV8 last weekend and I have to agree with all of you. It is a fine product. I almost lost control of the car coming out of a corner, because of wheel spin. (I wasn't used to the response increase yet, and I had my first ECU tune a week prior.) I can share the excitement all of you had when you first installed your SB, but I'm am really happy about something not yet mentioned. I can now run my AC without all the hesitation and near stalling from a stand still.

I have considered getting a Sprint Booster in the past but was unsure of it's true performance value.
After reading the responses here I'm going to have to put it on the "Mod List".
Thanks, I really needed something else to spend money on.

Wow! I can't wait to try the AC. What a pain it was to switch it on and off at every stop. This is the best bang for the buck.

As you know it doesn't make the car faster and it's no magic bullet, but I feel like the car is more driveable with it installed, and worst case scenario, you hate it and have to return it for a refund.

I haven't tried the A/C since installing, I will give that a shot and see if it helps. The R50 is totally undriveable in the city with the A/C on as I recall from last summer!

I wonder if getting a tune from GIAC or RMW will net the same results as the Sprint Booster plus better engine performance. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

I'm curious about what a tune on a Cooper could really get me, and how much it might cost. Any ideas on either?

I think they both run about $350

I've been putting up with the AC issue since 2003, so when I turn on the AC the hesitation is like second nature so I gassed it some to counter and I spun the tires. My first reaction was "Oh Sh!!!!!." (Cop within view) 2hrs later I realized how much better the car was running with the AC on.
With the Sprint Booster I realized I didn't need to increase the revs before take off.

I had a tune a week before I installed the Sprint Booster. The tune gave more power, but the response increased of the Booster was much more noticeable to me.

What kind of tune did you get?

Installed a Sprint Booster V2 for the 1st time yesterday. Still reviewing its plus points but do like the neat, easy install and the three settings.

Definitely improves take off in 1st, with my mods and tune I already had more than enough pull from 3000rpm.

I've owned the car for only 10 months and seldom require AC use but looking forward to checking that plus.

Auto Logic - If I lived in Cali I would have had an RMW Tune.

So does the last half of the pedal do anything with Sprint Booster installed. One thing that aggrevates me a bit is the last inch of the pedal doesn't seem to do anything in my car (full throttle happens early). I pretty much drive with the pedal on the floor most of the time until i get to speed so I'm not sure it would help me at all.
