Removing Gum from the plastic area

I don't know how, but I ended up with gum that must have hit my mini. It hit the tire well on the rear driver well. Then being it is hot and sunny in FL, it must have been really soft as it streamed it self all along the rest of the plastic area and even landed some on the left rear bottom lights.

Some of it was hard again when I poked at it and came off. Some of it was still soft and smeared a bit.

What is safe to use on the plastic parts to rub the gum off?

I didn't even hit 1,000 miles yet...

You might try 3M Adhesive Remover, a Bug/Tar Remover, a Clay Bar might help too...Good Luck!!

Let us know what works in case we come across the same problem.

Also consider WD40. It does well and does not harm paint or plastic.

Good ol' WD40. What CAN'T it do?

I nominate WD40 to the United Nations

It is what the most interesting man in the world drinks when he is not drinking beer.

Hey all,
Yes, I took to drinking. Was in Germany for the last 2 weeks on a biz trip drinking lots. I'm itching to get back in my Mini.

I haven't done anything with the gum yet so it seems WD-40 is the way to go. I'll be back home on Weds to try that out time permitting.

Will do my best to report back soon.

So after three weeks of the gum sitting there, spraying WD-40 didn't really do a whole lot. Neither did the bug n tar remover. I ended up picking off the gum with my finger nail slowly. It didn't all come off, but you can only tell if you are up close staring at it. I'm sure after a few more washes, the faint bits of gum will disintegrate on it's own.

Thanks all.

Here is another idea.
Take a "Ice Pack" and place it on the gummy surface.
Attach pack to car for 20 mins or so.
When you remove pack, the gum should be hard enough to remove without to much fuss.
