Tire & wheel size fitment with jcw springs on 06 MCS

Hey Guys, i have 2006 Mini Cooper S with the factory braking system and factory john cooper works lowering springs. Iam planning on putting on a set of rota 18x8 wheels all the way around. I would like minimal gap appearance but also do not want it to rub at all. Does anybody run this setup or something comparable? My main concern is what tire size would be optimal with this setup? iam looking for driveability&appearance more than any track use etc....i was thinking i would like to run a 215/40zr18 but i have no idea if this would fit the way i want without any headaches. Thanks in advance for any input! Geoff

Since you are dropped you really don't want to be using any wide tire that is taller than stock tire diameter of about 24.3".

215/40-18 is not as good a choice due to the tall 24.7 -24.9" tire diameter.
Tires may vary on height between models.

What is the offset of the 18x8 rota wheel? The more aggressive the offset the more a wide rim puts the wide and tall tire outward near the wheel arch plastic especailly in the rear.

205/40-18 fits rims 7-8" wide and has 24.4" tire diameter
215/35-18 fits rims 7-8.5" wide and has 24" tire diameter
225/35-18 fits rims 7.5-9" wide and has 24.3" tire diameter
235/35-18 fits rims 8-9.5" wide and has 24.5" tire diameter
245/35-18 fits rims 8-9.5" wide and has 24.7" tire diameter

If 18x8 with et of 45mm you will be fine.

Compared to stock JCW wheels
17x7 et +52mm

You are in good shape to clear everything provided you use tires that are 24.5" in tire diameter or less or as close as possible. A little rear negative camber may assist with clearance as needed.

Notice that many of the tire sizes I mentioned are 35 series sidewalls which are very stiff. If you want to have more comfort it makes more sense to-
use a 40 series sidewall, or get a tire with more compliance on the sidewall- more for comfort less for handling- perhaps an All season tire and not a runflat which has stiff sidewalls.

What tire did you want to use? Something for any weather including snow and cold or something for summers only and performance driving?

Did you want the tire to look aggressive and wide or do you care how it looks? Typically you can corner faster on wider tires but you get more weight and more rolling resistance and lower mpg. Less weight means more responsive acceleration and faster braking and more nimble handling.

If you want more info on tires contact Alex@tirerack.com at extention 294.
He knows MINI tires in these sizes.

Seen and ran these size tires on GP rims on MCS equipped with JCW suspension.

The GP rims have an et of 52 I believe.

225/40/18.

215/40/18.

No rubbing no issues.

If it fit no problem then that may be due to 18x7 width not 18x8.

How much clearance was there? What about with full load in the back seat and under load when cornering? If suspension is very stiff then it might be OK but if not so stiff you can rub if you drive aggressively or over uneven terrain- dips.

225/40-18 is tall at 25.1" tire diameter. Plus it would be wide on an 8" wide rim. You can do it but maybe more negative rear camber would help.
