Question on R56 Brembo-style brake conversion (wear sensors)

Hi,

I am planning to do the R56 JCW brake conversion on my R53, and I was curious if anybody knew if the wear sensors are compatible. In other words, I imagine one of three options is possible:

1. R53 wear sensors can be re-used with R56 JCW kit (100% compatible)
2. R56 wear sensors can be purchased and used as-is or mechanically adapted to R53 body connectors--electronics compatible
3. No compatibility due to different electronics, can not retain wear sensor functionality

***Update: #2 turned out to be correct (see post below).

Thanks,
Mike

Maybe I can get you part way there...

Strictly on an R56, the sensors are fully compatible from the S brakes to the large JCW brakes--same part number. In turn, the R56 S brakes are the same as the JCW brakes from the R53. Thus if the sensors cross over from R53 regular to R53 JCW, then they should logically cross over all the way to R56 JCW too.

Also, you can try looking at the part numbers for the two comparable cars on realOEM.com; that's how I got comfortable on all the bit part issues.

I just finished the install and the R56 wear sensors use a slightly different connector versus the R53, so I had to splice in the R53 connectors onto the R56 wear sensors. Not a big deal, but one more thing to consider in the brake conversion.

Or do not use wear sensors. When you rotate your tires look at the brakes while doing it. Dead simple.

I took my wear sensors & spliced the wires together. Goodbye brake nanny.
