Richard (gowest) or anybody else familiar with STX rules, feel free to jump in here

My question is:
Does this new rule change mean I've got to replace the H-sport upper rear control arms with the stock ones to stay STX legal for 2004? I assume I can keep the lower pair (for camber adjustment) and be OK. Does the MCS have a double/unequal arm suspension or a On arm-and-strut (MacPherson/Chapman) suspension?

david

Here's the rule:
From the February 2004 Fastrack
14.11. Street Touring X (STX)
B. Replace 14.8.E with "Camber kits,
also known as camber compensators, may
be installed. These kits consist of either
adjustable length arms or arm mounts
that provide an adjustment to the effective
length of a control arm. Alignment outside
the factory specifications is allowed. The
following restrictions apply:
1. On double/unequal arms suspensions,
only the upper arms OR lower
arms may be modified or replaced, but not
both.
2. On arm-and-strut (MacPherson/
Chapman) suspensions, the lower arms may be
modified/replaced OR other methods of
camber adjustment as allowed by paragraphs
14.8.B., C., or H. may be used, but
not both.
3. On swing or trailing arm suspensions,
the main arms may not be modified
but locating links/arms may be modified
or replaced.
4. The replacement arms or
mounts must attach to the original mounting
points. All bushings must meet the
requirements of 14.8 B. The
knuckle/bearing housing/spindle assembly
cannot be modified or replaced.

No, you are OK with upper and lower H-sport arms because the MINI's rear suspension is a trailing arm design and you have replaced the locating arms and not the trailing arm.

Does this rule still apply for an 05+ MCS with the current rules?

I assume so. I had thought we could not change both. I assume you, West, would know since you guys have always been in the mix up top.

thanks for the re-assurance(hopefully). I have both the upper and lower sitting here waiting to be installed, but, I don't have the knowledge on how to decipher which parts are considered which type in the rules. Trailing arms, double unequal arms, arm and strut, Swing and trailing, blah blah blah. It might as well be printed in Chinese for me when they start talking like this. :-)

Oasis T, Unless the rule has changed for 06 you can still replace both. The Mini has equal length upper and lower control arms, (lateral links) and a trailing arm. That's the arm that comes close to hitting the inside wheel lip at the front of the rear wheel when you get a +43, 15x7.5 SSR or a +42, 16x8 Volk ce28n. The arm pivots at the front and TRAILS back to the wheel mounting area. Even though 05 and 06 MINI's come with a factory toe adjuster, replacing both arms is still legal. I put that to an STAC member as soon as the toe adjustable MINI hit the market.

Front suspension falls under #2

Rear suspension falls under #3

Both rear links are replaceable in the rear.
