Wheel and Tire Insurance from MINI?

Anyone opt for this? Replace your wheels or tires if they need to be replaced. Doesn't cover things such as wheels damaged by scraping the curb. Only complete failures, like cracking a wheel by hitting the world's largest pot hole.

Curious what kind of $$$ this runs.

Thanks!

It's generally a VERY poor value and typically half the amount you pay for this insurance goes directly into the finance mgr and salesman pocket as commission, so if you do opt for it, bargain AGGRESSIVELY.

I ended up getting it since it also covered curb rash. I have used it about 3 times now to get my black wheels re-finished.

They told me explicitly that curb rash was NOT covered. Go figure!

Hmmm sounds like conflicting info on whether curb rash is covered. Maybe it depends on the dealer. So you're saying if I scratch my anthracite turbofan rims I could get them "recoated". Wouldn't you be able to tell though?

When I bought my car the financing lady went through all these insurances and she would ask me if i wanted them while shaking her head "no... you really don't."

If you look at the information provided, the 700 or 800 includes the fixing of any dings/chips or scratches on your MINI as well. In all it is not a bad deal. BTW I bought the tire protection package on my soon to be replaced car and it has already paid for itself. It is one of the options that I am purchasing.

The MINI Blemish Buster Protection Plus Plan

Covers replacemen of flat tire due to road hazzard (tire must have >2/32" of tread remaining

The kicker is wheels will be replaced if damaged by road hazzards (does curb damage count)

Dent and Ding protection and windshield protection.

If the cost is not greater than $1000 it would be a good deal otherwise forget about it.

We got it because just replacing the tire cost 250$ if you continue with runflats. I had to replace all 4 of my tires 2x within the first year. I some how attracted nails.

We didnt! The runflats are horrible, get rid of them... the money you spent on this insurance you could have bought yourself some great non runflat tires and had money left over. You get free roadside assistance! As soon as our runflats wear down i'll never go back to them.

Interestingly, I checked the pressure in my tires yesterday (2008 MC S Manual), as they seem to lose air rather quickly what with the state of the roads here in NJ/NY area, and my right front tire was at 2 PSI..yes "2", and I couldn't even tell it was low on air. The TPMS never came on either. I am now wondering if there is something wrong with the tire....

Something is amiss here - tires don't deflate to 2 psi just due to rough roads and the TPMS should definitely catch it if it did. Have you confirmed the tire gage is working properly?

We got it. And they told us everything was covered! Curb rash, nails, anything!! The way my wife drives and parks I quickly opted for it! I thought about it this way. If in seven years i have to replace three tires for something, or a rim! It'll be worth it! If you live up north were you have snow, might not be a bad idea for curb rash!

I think this is the best advice of all, but then again, it all depends on your luck. I had the insurance on my 335i that I just sold and I only had one tire replaced. The bottom line is the run flats are terrible - noisy as hell, very hard ride, more than twice as expensive to replace as non-RF's, and if you get 25,000 miles out of them consider yourself very lucky. The only good news is that even after you replace them the replacement tires are also covered. I expect to get my MCS in about a month and the first thing I'm going to do is order four non-run flats and after market wheels from Tire Rack and store the original tires and wheels. Total cost, including shipping and balancing, of the 4 mounted non-RF tires on new rims WITH the TPMS installed on the new rims is about $1,260. The non run flats will last longer and the ride will be light years better. I know because I replaced the run flats on the 335i and it felt like a different car. I should mention that I'm leasing the MINI so in three years I will put the original tires and rims back on the car.

I was pitched this insurance, and I went for it. My questions were the same as many above...

Does it cover rubbing a curb?

yes

I was thinking about going aftermarket for wheels and tires, what then?

Still covered

I live in Los Angeles. Just recently spent $300 on a new tire and getting a rim bent back on my wifes car, not to mention the numerous scrapes from hitting curbs she's had.

This was well worth it to me.

If they are telling you those things aren't covered, you might want to ask them to double check. They made me believe that other than just wearing the tire out, anything else that happens warrants a repair or replacement.

I passed on this. I was given the complete opposite information. Curb rash is not covered because its just cosmetic. Aftermarket wheels and tires are not covered either, my dealership said that only OEM parts are covered.

Maybe each dealership defines the scope of their coverage? I probably would have gone for it too otherwise.

I plan to go with the alternative method. Wear the RFs down. Replace with nonRFs. Hope and pray my wheels don't break. Avoid curbs.

Passport said no to rash. Tire damage is covered, wheels are covered - but only from pot holes and the like. No rash insurance and OEM only. They also gave an option #2 that limits the number of claims, but was half the price.

hmm, well this has me wondering if I heard correctly, but I'm pretty sure that's what they told me because I was specifically curious about that.

Might have to follow up on that.

I got the Wheel/Tire and Maintenance Package for $1800 couldn't pass that up. Since they told me it covers the aftermarket wheel also.

I'm going to purchase tire and wheel insurance for my new MINI Cooper Countryman and I strongly recommend both both wheel and tire insurance and educational track time to get aware of handling the MINI in some unusual situations on the road.
