Underbody wheel-well "fabric"
Underbody wheel-well "fabric"
Hey all, just about to get my first DP order and give my new MCS its first wash. Quick question, though: at least part of the wheel wells seem to be covered in something between hogs hair and felt, and it seems to be collecting odd bits like blades of grass (depite the fact that I haven't done donuts on the golf course). Quite surprising to this first-time MINI owner.
Do y'all just scrub the heck outta that stuff, or is there a more proper protocol/brush-solution combo?

The fabric liner is there to dampen the noise for a quieter cabin. Not much you can do but treat it like fabric. You can brush it, shampoo it if it really bothers you (easier with the wheels off, lol), or just leave it. Nothing to dress however. You probably could also spray a fabric protectant on it to make it more water repellent but I haven't tried that.

I noticed the same thing yesterday during my wash. I just treated it semi-carefully, but like the rest of the car. Take a nice blast of water to it and it cleans up nicely. It's meant to take the beatings of the road, so I wouldn't be overly careful with it
Thanks for the clarification and suggestions, all. Hey, I waited for the 2011 model year for the noise reduction feature (as minimal as it might be), so I'll gladly take some hairy armpits for additional quiet.
haha...noise reduction? HA! im sure it will be much much quieter when these aweful run flats get taken off.
As for the fabric, I was shocked to see it too but I just take my hose and wash it out and it cleans up just fine. I was thinking about getting some scotchguard to spray under there but its been cleaning up well so i may hold off.
Also, I had no idea that was for sound dampening..GTK
