Just picked up an '10 MCS in IY with 3750 miles on it. I have an 05 Nissan 350Z convertible also. The question is, the material that MINI uses for the top is much more"fuzzy" than the tight weave canvas Nissan uses for their roof. I use a parafin based treatment on my Z that I picked up at a Porsche dealership but after looking at the MINI material, if I applied this product to the top of my MCS I think it would totally goo it up and ruin the top. Do I need to used a silicone type repellent instead??? What has everyone else been using? Thx for any input.

I've have a 2007 that I've used 303 on for the whole time. The material still looks new, nice and dark black. Its also great because you can use it on other parts of your car like the vinyl skirt. I use it 2-3x per year. Great protection agains UV which is key. One note on the cloth top. From the start I used Woolite for dark materials to wash the top. This has been really good, cleans the material well yet is gentle.

 

Another option, that I have been using, is Ragg-top http://www.wolfsteins.com/index2.php
I seem to recall choosing it because it was what the manufacturer of the fabric our tops are made from recommends.

 

What are we repelling? The canvas is not what keeps water out when the top is up though it helps. There is a lining in the cover that does that. The only thing that can be done is to treat the canvas to keep the fabric from deteriorating.

The top is fabric and very expensive to replace. Keep the top clean, use protectant 2x-a-year and avoid harsh cleaners.

You can see how well it works when water beads up and rolls off the top. Apply another dose when you lose the beading action.
