Dinan Throttle Body

I am starting to do more mods to my 03 MCS. Have 15% pulley, Milltek exhaust and drop in foam filter. Plan tune in near future. Have seen Dinan's bored throttle body. It is moderately expensive so wondering if anyone has any experience with this or other bored throttle bodies and what type of gains realized.

you will gain 1-2 hp for a TB
better to spend the money on a cam

Would you recommend a cam before going with bigger injectors? I was under the impression that with a 15% pulley and a tune you would already be maxing out the stock 350s is that right? Also if you can install a pulley is it reasonable to say you can install a Cam your self?

Thanks and I don't mean to thread jack...

Nick

if you know what feeler gauges, assembly lube, loc-tite, instructions and a torque wrench are, you own all of them as well as fully understand how to use them and get each piston to tdc... then it shouldnt be too much of a problem. If youve never done any valve work before.... although not hard, see if you can have someone show you how to use a feeler gauge as well as rotate the engine crank by hand and find tdc for each piston. you will need to get the chearance and torque values to do this job, so id get a bently manual if you are thinking of attempting it.

best to use 450cc injectors and tune but 380s have been fine with that combo and a stock tune

yes on the install part

At this point I am unlikely to get into my motor and am leaning more toward bolt on and software. My list includes ecu tune, cai, injectors(if only to increase safety margin), possible inter-cooler upgrade since live in Texas and supercharger upgrade if easy bolt on application materializes.
In this context, is the throttle-body upgrade worthwhile? Does it affect low end, throttle response to make even more drivable?

I agree, I did the Dinan TB early on in order keep my waranty in tact, and as far as bang for your buck it's really low on the scale. I'm still using it with no issues and feel that it works pretty well but only because of the rest of my mods and the benefits are only noticable from 5500rpm and up, and you will lose some power/torque in the mid. areas of your rpm. Basically if your not running a head and exhaust for the car to breathe better and a raised red line so your shifts put you into the higher rpm's in your next gear you're shooting yourself in the foot. And even then the gains, if any, are questionable.

(If mine went bad I'd just go back to stock.)

Why don't you go for a CAI now? it made a pretty big difference on my car, as stock, and now with the 15%, it makes an even bigger one. Maybe after that, focus on suspension stuff, theres not a ton more you can get that's a bolt on that does much for the engine...

Decisions - decisions. Once I decide which one I want. Want to have before I get a tune.
