Whole oem sound system just blew, does anyone know whats wrong?

So yesterday my sound system just stopped working. I do not have any aftermarket parts for my sound system, it is all stock. My cd player, aux, am and fm are not working, the head unit is on however there is no sound. The only sound that I can hear are popping noises and also a static noise like the noise from a walkie talkie from my speakers.

Does anyone know whats wrong with my system? The weird thing is that when I turn off the head unit completely, it still makes the popping and static noise from my speakers and it only stops making the noise when I take out my key from the ignition. Is the problem from the head unit, wiring, or amp? Please give me some advise if you had experienced the same problem.

Do you have Harmon Kardon? It sounds like the amp blew and if it is, it is not a cheap fix (about 700 USD).

Your amp just died, I bet. Is it an H/K? What year? Do a search on "H/K amp died" for all the details.
If that is what it is, sorry dude. Mine crapped out a few years back. I'll listen to an Ipod with ear plugs before I shell out that kind of money.

My OEM stereo works as designed and it blows too.

One day I have to install a real system...

Note: You can find used ones on ebay, or places like LKQ or Mazda & MINI recycling for less. Still pricey - often $300+, but less than $700.

I just changed out my sound system and I have an amp that I am wanting to sell. The OEM system works fine i just wanted a little more power and new HU that more easliy incorporates use of iPod. The amp is out of my '05 MCS convertible.

Message me here if you want to discuss purchasing the amp.

what would you guys recommend, fixing the amp or getting a new system? im pretty sure getting a decent system will cost around 700 too. if anyone did get a new system, how much did it cost and what do you need to buy? just the deck and a amp?

There have been lots of threads on this. If you are going to do it, you will have to do it right and replace it all. Deck, amp and speakers. The HK speakers are 2 Ohm and won't work with most decks. Even if you do find a deck that can drive the speakers, you will have to do some fancy wiring as they are dual coilovers in the rear. Honestly, it isn't worth the hassle. When mine goes I am going aftermarket.
