What's required for controlling iPhone/iPod?

Hi all,

Looking to get a Countryman, but I'm having a hard time determining what audio input interfaces are provided in the standard configuration.

If I want to control my iPhone from the steering wheel controls, can I do that with the standard config or must I include MINI Connected or some other option?

thanks!

On my 2011 MCS

Bluetooth and USB/IPOD connector $500 Option

You do not have to get Mini connected

Very easy to pair my Iphone to the MINI and it works extreamly well. Calls are clear and static free on both ends. My first experience with a hands free system in a car and I was very surprised at how well it works.

Oh, Iphone 3GS with IOS 4.2.1

Anyone else find it utterly amazing that Hyundai provides this on all models as a standard feature?

thanks for the info.

So without the "Bluetooth Prep w/USB" (I think that's how it's listed in the Configurator), I would be limited to audio only using the generic AUX input with the headphone jack on the iPhone/iPod. That's a bummer because I don't really want Bluetooth, just the ability to control the iPhone via its dock connector.

Are there any aftermarket products that provide same functionality for less? (iPhone <--> USB <--> steering wheel controls)

Probably not for under the $500 it would cost to add the option and in my experience, aftermarket setups just aren't as easy or seamless as the factory option...

There was something for the Acura TL that did something similar - it had a dock connector cable and allowed you to control the iPod/iPhone from the factory controls and would display the ID3 tag info on the screen. The unit itself was around $300, but it did have it's fair share of issues.

The DICE kits are for 1st Gen cars only- 07+ changes the media bits from iBUS to a MOST-based system. The closest equivalent for the current cars is probably the Gateway 500, but it's not cheap.
