Electrical Car won't start
Car won't start
Looks like trouble comes in 3's.... another car won't start thread.
2004 JCW that has a newish (less than 1 year old) red top. I had taken out the HU a few days ago, along with rear seats, and right side piece of plastic in the rear. Essentially getting ready for a new stereo & amp install. I had driven it for a few days with no problem whatsoever.
I got up yesterday to head to work and the car did not respond to my key fob. Nothing. So I unlocked the door manually and the car did nothing when I put the key in. No lights, beeps or diddly squat. I did not want to be late for work so I just got in a spare & took off.
I thought my fob might need a new battery (original) and I thought I remembered reading somewhere that using a key to unlock may "lock" the electrical system. Has anyone heard of anything like that?
Anyway, I replaced the battery & nothing happened. I tried to boost the car, nothing. No lights, beepers, etc.
I charged the battery last night (10A/hr for about 8 hours) and nothing.
I am about to pull the ground & reattach to see if anything resets. If nothing then, I will pull the battery & have it load tested, but that seems like I am grasping at straws.
Any thoughts so far?
Is there a fuse that could account for this? Not like I have done anything to blow one.
I am just nervous as hell now that just today UPS dropped off my new amps & subwoofer and I fear that the car is drawing a line in the sand.

OK, so I went and took the battery to be checked out & everything came back dandy. I installed it and checked for voltage in the engine compartment and there was, totally. So the big-assed first fuse is OK. Who knows where the next one in line is? I do not see it in the fuse block. Thanks for your insight!
235A main fuse problem
OK, so I tested the positive lead on both sides of the mega-fuse and had voltage. I went up into the bonnet and checked for voltage at the terminal there, and had 12.62VDC. I just did not have the time to follow it further, and I guessed it was my immobiliser, so I called Mini and got directions =, etc, to reprogram key fob, no luck. So I had it towed in and they fixed it yesterday. The diagnosis? Corroded mega fuse. They removed it and cleaned it and charged me $118. (I am not really griping about the price, actually a great deal relieved)
I assume the water in the boot problem started this problem. What I want to know is, I had VOLTAGE THROUGH THE FUSE. So why would not even a door light come on? There is not that much load for a door chime. Does the ECU require a certain amperage before it will allow current to the system?
