Boot stripes question/opinions

Hey folks,

I also posted this inquiry here, but thought I'd cross post and reiterate my question. I've ordered the factory bonnet stripes, and am planning on replacing the 'skinny' inner stripe with a red one (preferably chili red, in honor of my 05 Cooper I'll be trading in). I would also like to put on boot stripes, but not in line with the bonnet stripes, as I'd rather not have to cut into them to go around the 'Cooper S' badge on the back. I also think more centered boot stripes would break up the expanse of white. My MA thinks it may look funny to not have them line up, but what do you think? I did a crude mock-up of what I'm thinking in the link above. Has anyone seen pics of a MINI where the boot & bonnet stripes don't line up? I'm not putting anything on the roof.

Thanks!

I just dont like the wide stripes on the bonnet. I do like the red stripe on the outside. Be careful how wide you do on the red stripes. Check my gallery for pics. On the first attempt they put half inch wide red on the inside and out side and it was way to much red. ended up with 1/4 to 1/3" which turned out exactly what I wanted. Good like. Go with what you like its your car.

I like it! I don't mind the fact that the stripes are different front/back. No one can really see both at the same time so I don't think it will matter. If you were doing the roof, too, that would be a problem .
I agree with Island Maser, make the red stripes pretty thin. I did black pinstripes alongside the bonnet stripes on El Kabong and I think I did 1/4".
Island maser, I checked your gallery, NICE! I'm in the process of ordering a new '11 MCS (El Kabong was totaled last week ) so am enjoying looking at everyone's galleries for ideas. I'm going a bit more stealth this time.
Annette

Here's a pic, not a great one sorry. But this is the 1/4".

I just took the badge off, installed my stripes, and then reinstalled the badge on top of the stripes. Just an option if you decide to go that route.

Thanks!

It is just held on with some double-sided tape/glue. So yes, heat it up a little bit and use some thread. I actually found the applicator for my stripes (a piece of thin plastic used to smooth out the bubbles) worked well as I could get better leverage.

Got some 3M heavy duty double-sided tape from the auto parts store and cut pieces to fit on the letters and stuck back on once I was done with the stripes.

That is what I used with a hair dryer. They came off really easily. Did mine when my car was about a month old. Naked boot is .

Picking up my Countryman tomorrow - here's how the stripes came out.

I love it, very nice. Too funny how we like to "honor" a previous MINI. I'm picking up my '11 MCS tomorrow and in memory of El Kabong I'll be putting his checkerboard valve caps on the wheels.

Thanks! One more idea (for another time) is to replace the mirror caps with Chili Red versions. The final homage. It was a bit melancholy to say goodbye to Lil' Red (my 05 Cooper). But I'm very happy with the CM so far. Just trying to figure out all the voice commands, nav, etc...

Nice job. I like the uniqueness of your stripes and style. A true characteristic of the MINI culture. Nicely done.
