Hey everybody....what a way to start 2004 hey! 3:30am 3rd of Jan my Mini was stolen off my drive. They broke into my house, stole my keys and drove off in my car!
Id only just put 17" alloys on it! they were 3 weeks old!!!!
Its been found not far from my house on bricks and on fire! How can anybody set fire to a mini?!?!?
Well these guys didnt do such a great job because they left the doors and windows closed so soon as the oxygen had burnt up the fire went out. Im left with a wheel-less, smoke and fire damaged stripped mini! took my CDs, CD player, Football equiptment, Laptop and even my chrome side repeaters. Not sure if my neons have been stolen...but im pretty sure they will be gone too!

Can you believe it

I know man...i know who it was aswel. 4 lads were braggin about it at a party and people i knew heard them and told me. Before i could tell the police they had already been arrested for having my laptop in the boot of another car. They have all been released now though because they just said they bought it of some1 they didnt know in a pub. I know who they are though and i know they were driving around in it the day it was stolen. But apparently they only borrowed it for the night off the people who stole it. They wont let on who they borrowed it off though. The police know and have my car for forensics so they can arrest the perps and send them down! I hope they get life for attempted murder of my poor mini!

That really stinks, but I also feel that we're only getting part of the story here. I mean, random strangers don't exactly break into people's homes and take their keys in order to boost their car...highly unlikely unless there's some sort of existing relationship between the thieves and the victim. In order to find car keys during a break-in, the thieves would really have to know what they were looking for and where to find it. Again, not common characteristics of random thugs.

Fortunately, 112 seems to know a fair bit about these thieves, so surely they'll be caught soon (actually, it seems that they've already been caught, just not charged...yet).

At the moment in the UK what theives do is use a metal rod with a magnet on the end and pick up the keys through the letter box. I always used to leave my keys in a little pot directly infront of the letter box so it was perfectly easy for them to get the keys. They then came into the house and took a few minor things aswel!

What if the thieves are female? Hysterectomies?

I can understand how someone might want to steal a MINI, but why burn it once you got it? Really sucks! Sorry for you. . . .

Ok, first and foremost: Cripes! That's hiddeous!!!

But now I'm curious...

So in the UK thieves use the magnet/letterbox trick:
1. Did you know this before? And if so, why keep your keys, um, under the letterbox?
2. If thieves are doing this, that must mean that a sufficient and known population of brits keep their keys beneath their letterboxes which is a) weird and b) asking for trouble.

I'm in agreement that there is much, much more to this paeticular story and hey, that's cool and that's your business. Doesn't change the fact that your MINI was BBQ'ed, and it certainly doesn't make it suck any less.

Hopefully insurance will process quickly and you'll be motoring again in no time--only please, leave your keys in a more creative place. And I don't mean hidden in the wheel well...

Sorry to hear about it, and I hope it all works out.

First I have heard of someone breaking in a house to get the keys. Determined SOB's I would say.

Regards,
Red

Yeah it is kinda well known and yes us brits do seem to leave the keys near the front door...dont ask why. Me personally i blame it purely on alcohol as when im soaber the keys always make it to my room. Its just the first thing you see when u walk in the door when youve been at the pub all night and you just drop your keeys in it!
There isnt more to the story than what ive told....what do you think im hiding? Now im curious lol
Yeah hopefully the insurance are going to cover it....im just gonna lose the money i payed for the wheels and cd's etc. and the excess for the insurance. So fingers crossed ill have a mini back on my drive asap!!

Dude ... they set your wheels on fire What the fu#k is wrong with people today ... Come on steal your ride for economic reasons (chop shop) OK I buy that. Steal the Mini rocket for a Joyride and dump it later ... OK rather imature but still OK. But steal your Mini, put up on blocks and put a torch to it. Man ... I am glad that in the UK your are GUILTY until proven otherwise ... Off with their Heads I say .... Take them to the Iron Maiden
