2008 Clubman S with big problems from cold start noise

I have a 2008 Mini Clubman S with 75k miles on it...

New to the forum so I am just learning about the chain tensioner issue which was obviously the beginning of my problems. I drive the car a lot but bought it expecting a top quality car that could handle the highway mileage that I drive.

My noise began on a cold Florida morning and it seemed to go away as I let the car warm up. Took it by my local shop that does specialize in European cars but he didn't recognize the noise. On Wednesday while driving the oil pressure sensor came on while cruising at 80mph. I stopped immediately and towed it to the same shop.

They pulled the oil pan and found parts of the tensioner which obviously is a know issue with these cars.

I love my car but I am kicking myself for not taking it to Carmax last week!

Has anyone had any luck fighting with MINI about these repairs after the warranty has run out.

What do you have to lose? Take a handful of tensioner and chain parts to the dealer and ask them to help you....

Of course, if it was a MINI dealer doing the repairs chances are you might get a little more help.

Still worth a try...

I am trying to decide what to do... The shop it is at right now just took off the oil pan and hasn't proceeded at all. I am trying to decide whether to take it to the dealer and fight with mini or just get it fixed at my local shop.

IMO had the "local" shop done 10 mins of research and checked you MINI a bit more thoroughly, we would not be discussing this......

Good luck.
