They should "just" work after the dealer enables them in the firmware.

Of course, that assumes your installation of the switch assembly went OK.

Yes, from the factory the bulbs and wiring are (should) already be in there. It's just telling the MINI to go look for them when you flip the switch.

I had that added in 2005 to my 03, and cost aside was an easy upgrade.

Servers were down? You'd think it would just be portable software, but who knows? You'll be foggy soon!

It required a couple of attempts by my dealer before the software update finally "took".

Hmm. It was only a matter of the dealer having to reflash the BC1 on my car to recognize the rear fog lights. All bulbs and wiring were already in place - just needed the full toggle switch unit plugged in and BC1 flashed.

The flash process didn't take long at all. If memory serves me right, I had the dealer do it while I had the car in for an oil service.

There's a TSB out there regarding rear fog light retrofits. Maybe someone on here has a copy of that document...

Sounds like the dealers around you don't know what they're talking about. Ugh...

Huh. Maybe they're out of practice. In 2005 I had my ECU flashed to recognize the fogs at Richmond MINI, VA - only took a few minutes (and that was prior to my installing the full toggle rack!)

My 2006 also only took a short time to flash. However, from what I've seen in the forums, BMW/MINI changed their procedure several years ago. Dealers used to be able to locally update software themselves but now they can only download updates by VIN from the BMW server.
