Sell your car, add the $6k to that money and buy an S.
If you were to convert your car the cost and headaches would never end.

I had the same problem when I got my first MINI at 18. Bought a Cooper because of the ridiculous insurance on an S.

Turned 21, insurance went down, and I bought a JCW

That's a much better idea than an engine swap... on a lease...

(1) You can't have your cake and eat it to, so to speak. If you are paying insurance for a Cooper, that is all they will pay you if anything happens to the car. In other words, if you total it you lose all of the money you spent to upgrade it.

(2) You want to swap the engine on a leased car? This is probably the craziest thing I've ever read on this forum.

Keep it until the lease is up, and then get an S or JCW or whatever for your next car!

WOOAH!!!! $500/month for insurance??? Man, I remember my first car when I was 16. A brand new 5.0 '93 Muatang. All I had to pay was the insurance and gas. I thought that was alot back then. I think it was around $250/300 month. Now at 34 I only pay $240 for every 6 months on my 09MCS.

Well the swap wasent for now guys common , I was plannin to keep it after the lease, but now doing a little research on my insurance I think I could get the jcw or a s as my next car, ha ha you guys thought I was goin to swap a leased car, I'm new and I already like this forum lol .... Plus the payments on it wont be bad either cause I get special discounts on it like I pay a little less than msrp and like 240-310$ a month on a s or a jcw respectively

Raise the performance of the car via engine swap, and not tell the insurance company... Sounds like insurance fraud to me... There is a reason they charge idiot kids an arm and leg to insure faster cars...

Well some idiot kid I am then, for graduating at 16, I mean I'm expecting you did the same or even earlier? But before you post please read prior posts cause I said I might keep the vehicle meaning in the end I WILL if I do keep it, tell my insurance company the modifications I have in the vehicle!!! An a little reading goes a long way because a few posts down I clearly said I'm going to get a JCW Cooper s when I'm don't with my lease, so before name calling starts please read that's all I'm asking!! Thanks

Yeah, like i said earlier, I had a brand new 5.0 Mustang at 16 and I didn't kill anyone. The MINI is nowhere near as powerful as a car as that was either. Go ahead, if you got the money build away. Just keep in mind the endless headaches that will come with a car like that. I read a magazine called "MODERN MINI" that they sell in one of the local Barnes and Noble that is a British Mag just for as you guessed it...the modern MINIS. LOL. Anyway, they always showcase other peoples cars and mods. With insurance being VERY high there also for younger peeps, alot go the non-S route and supe them up. I've seen some pretty fast cars, not to mention good looking. Try to find that magazine for a little help man. If i remember correct, one dude had his JUSTA just as/almost as fast as an S with out adding a turbo or supercharger depending on the year. Cant remember. I would try that route to save alot of headache man.

An intake is still most likely reusable even after a total loss is written off. The idea of putting thousands into a car and then boom you run into someone or get run over and the car is totaled you would then be seeking a payoff equal to that of you perceived value of the car. The insrance company would not only want ot give you the non modded value of the car, they might have a bad taste in their mouth and could even refuse payoff due to the fraud that was committed in the form of paying premiums on a non turboed car but the owner added the turbo and thus brought the car up to a higher insurable rate but in such a way to avoid those premiums.

There was no name calling. The other poster was merely stating it is no wonder why insurance for a higher performance vehicle is so high for younger adults who often seek speed and power (in this case possibly fraudulently).

People are just here trying to help. When a new person comes on a forum and asking to do a difficult and costly swap like this to a brand new car I would draw the assumption that the OP asking hasn't a clue how to do it, no funds for it, and thinks they can do it now and make it a reliable DD. This happens on every forum, people come on and want to do the incredible right off the bat and never do. Time and time again it happens. So I would not take it personally or get all huffy and defensive. The advise is true and logical. Hopefully my explanation will not be misconstrued as well.

In regard to mods and insurance it is common practice for lots of modders to talk to their insurance company and see what will and wont be covered in the event of an unfortunate accident. I saw this all of the time, many insurance agents will not insure a truck if the tires are so many inches different than factory specs or if the suspension has been changed by so many inches. So you may joke about an intake but if you want it covered you need to make sure your insurance agency will cover it as long as you can show receipts.
