R56 r56 Transmission in a r53/r50. Is it possible?

r56 Transmission in a r53/r50. Is it possible?

If it is, what custom fabrication would it require? If not.. why not?

First and foremost, anything is possible, if you've got the $$$

Why do you want to put the R56 Getrag into the R53/R50 ?

What advantage are you looking for with this idea ?

+1.: The gearing on the '05 & '06 are much closer than the Gen 2 boxes. An R56 box in a late model R53 would negatively impact performance.

reviving a dead thread, but does anyone have an educated or personal experience response? are output shafts the same? bell housing bolt pattern? I am curious for the reason that the R56 tranny is the same one (I believe) that the countryman uses, and has the lovely option of an AWD transfer case.
