help with valuation please- autographed clubman

Hi All:

Well, the time has come where I will be looking into selling my beloved '08 Clubman.

I will never forget the thrill of tracking it from inception, to transport to picking it up at the dealership.

For the many of you that haven't read my posts of 2+ years ago, my wife was able to arrange for my Mini to be autographed under the hood by all the guys and gals on the line in Oxford who built the car (photos attached).

When we ordered her we knew I wouldn't be driving much longer and the day is soon here.

She is an '08 pepper white/black chocolate interior, every pkg, every option, nav, back up sensors++++ everything but chrome pkg- I also installed Craven Strut tower braces(red). She has under 13,000 VERY pampered miles on her and many, many, many coats of Zaino wax on it. Not a scratch, ding or stain.

The sticker price was $32,000+ and of course there was not much discounting then.

My question is, with the autographs under the hood of the real super stars at mini, the men and women whose hands actually built this car- ok not always their hands, but they controlled the build- signed under the bonnet means so very much to me. Would you tell me what you think it means as far as pricing and any suggestions as to value and where to market it is appreciated.

Thank you!

Not to sound like an *** but the signatures won't add a dime to what its worth. In economic times like these it would be a very hard sell.

But it is a pretty car. I have the redwood lounge and love em. I wouldn't mind getting rid of my 09MCS and get a clubman since I'm getting married in May and hopefully will start building a fam. Good luck with the sale.

Sorry, I can't see a premium. If someone were to find that valuable, they would possibly require provenance. Sometimes what is valuable to us is only valuable to us. In looking at your past posts, I see stuff from '04, but nothing from two years ago.

wow, posts from my '04. Thought this is where I posted when I bought my new 2008. Wonder what forum that is on? Now I have to search other Mini Forums.
Thanks for the info. Will let you know where I find my posts.

I would guess that this has potential to be a value 15-20-30 years down the road when these things are regarded as rarities or classic cars or "Antiques." That sort of thing is good from a memorabilia standpoint, but those kind of things are only worth something once the real thing is moved to the realm of memories.

BUT, If/When I order a new MINI to replace mine, I'm definitely going to try and get my MA to have them do this to my own MINI.

when they did it, having the car signed, they said it was the first and the last time they would do it. It does mean alot, to me anyway, hope they will do it for you too.

Now, this is BY far one of coolest things i have ever seen. How in heavens name were you guys able to pull something like this off?

Honestly, if i were you i would take the bonnet off and hang it in your garage and get a replacement one before you sell it. this is seriously awesome and if i could of had this done i would hold onto it for dear life

can i ask why your selling it?

Thank you. Just don't drive much anymore. so glad you appreciate it. health problems. yes, it is an awesome thing they did having it signed for me, to me, the guys who built the car, knowing they were building it for me, signing it, what a blast. I was, guess alway will be a car nut, had LOTS of cars in my days, this by far is the one that means the most to me. reality is though I won't be using it much and don't want it to just sit.

Hjacobs, please, for all of us. If you do not receive what you should get for the car, because i believe you have a car like NO other that IS worth more $ That being said, it would look great in your garage or wherever you keep it, instead of you selling it to some person who doesnt even care and it goes to waste. Do what the other guy said and take the bonnet of and replace it, then sell it.

Please let us know what u decide to do, heck, i would buy the bonnet from you! How much?

I think it is incredibly cool that your MINI has all the signatures of the line workers who bolted her together for you. That really had to make you smile the first time you opened the bonnet.

As far as value goes, your MINI is in pristine shape so that is going to help. I see no added value at this time for the signatures. In the future that may change.

I'm sorry to hear you have to part with your MINI. Good luck & good health to you.

Signed hood

Thank you all for your replies. I do not think though that the bonnet should be removed from the car as it is the car that the people who signed the bonnet built. somehow they belong together for the cars sake and the men and women who built it.
Had an idea last night, Maybe some Mini org will see it and buy it to raffle off?
Thanks again.

Absolutely don't separate the hood from your MINI. That would devalue your car.

I'm thinking use one of the online pricing places to help you determine a market value. Place an ad for what additional value your MINI has to you & see what the market says.

Really sorry to hear that you have to part with your Clubby and saddened to read that it is not because you wish to do so. That is a beautiful car. Obviously meticuously cared for and even a bit spoiled. It is very unique as well. I wish you well. God bless.

Very sorry to hear your in a position where you feel you have to get rid of your MINI. I was in a similar situation. I became disabled about a year after buying Fizzgig - that's why I have only 12,900 miles on the clock. Thought long and hard about selling Fizzgig. I'm also a single parent - could really use the money. Finally decided I had too much time and money invested in Fizzgig to let go of him. Consider keeping your Clubman if possible. You will be glad if you do.

I too agree that its very cool that the assembly line workers signed the underside of the bonnet but I can't see it making the car more valuable when its up for sale. Like others said you may want to mount that bonnet up in your house or garage as a conversation piece.

Best of luck finding a new owner for your Clubman.

Sorry to hear that you will no longer be able to drive. Is there a reason you cannot keep it and at least get to ride in it? No trying to get into your personal business, just curious.

Anyway, if you do have to get rid of the car there is another possibility. It is highly unlikely this would work ut worth a shot. Contact MINI. your car is a one-off that was created and, by what you said, they only did once and will never again do. Maybe they would have interest in it for the museum at the factory.

Just a thought, but if you coulld pull it off others would get to see the special car that was created for you. If I was in your shoes and had to sell the car I would at least give this a try. You know it would be very well taken care of. Even ask if not at Oxford, how about the BMW museum in Spartenburg, SC.
