R60 Headliner
I went with anthracite. I didn't realize that it was beige by default, and didn't even know what a "headliner" was, until someone on this forum talked about it. With everything black and checkered, leatherette, etc. plus Cosmic and a black roof, I figured the anthracite headliner would look much better. I wish this wasn't an option that you had to pay for. I know some people think the whole cabin would be too dark with it, but I'm going for it.
We got the anthracite. We are going with a white and black theme, light white with black roof and anthracite rims, and figured the anthracite headliner would be the best option.
I agree this shouldn't be an upcharge. Kind of ridiculous.

I kept the default and when I sat in the car yesterday I didn't even notice what color it was. I also forgot to look at how the door liner looked. I got polar beige everywhere possible. I thought the mini looked awesome and I get it this afternoon
We also got the Anthracite headliner and are very glad we did. Our car has the Carbon Black Lounge Leather seats, Carbon Black interior with Polar Beige Color Line. Very snazzy. The pillars are headliner color so we did not want polar beige pillars against the carbon black interior and a polar beige headliner. Our preference is for more continuity. The anthracite headliner does not make us feel closed in at all (we also have the sunroof so that probably contributes to the open feeling).
The beige would look fine with the Polar color line. I don't think it looks good at all if you go Carbon Black. It just doesn't match. Again, I didn't notice originally because the interiors I saw in the show room were usually something like Polar Beige. It really just seems that they should have you pick. I can't imagine the anthracite is any more expensive for them.

We got the anthracite because I don't like seeing the road dirt, diesel soot that gets on the ceiling and door pillars. I use a Bissell Little Green Clean machine to wet vac my ceiling on my '03 Cooper S twice a year. I hate seeing a dirty ceiling and don't want to have to go crazy cleaning the interior.

My wife and I were comparing the two options today and am going with the polar beige headliner, and also Color Line, probably with a black door panel.
We were originally thinking about a Carbon Black color line, with Dark Tobacco door panels - but the difference is so slight that I wanted the polar beige for more contrast in the door, and I figured with the white part inside the inner round part is was much less likely to get dirty than on the door panels.
One of the reasons we stuck with the default Polar Beige headliner, was that the cabin seemed kind of dark otherwise (even with a sunroof).
I'm also torn on trim colors, because I loved the Dark Silver but that's (in theory) not a color you can get on anything but the Cooper Countryman (I'm asking the dealer if I can get that anyway). I liked piano black but I think that would show fingerprints really well (I still may go with that though if I can't get Dark Silver).

I got the standard beige headliner in my '06 Cooper. Liked it; had no problems with it. When upgrading to my '09 Clubman, I bought a car from their lot and it had anthrocite headliner. After seeing it was just a black color, nothing else, I felt like it's a rip-off option. $250 for black instead of beige?? C'mon. Plus, I think it brings the interior too close to me. I didn't feel that way with my '06.
My next car (Countryman) will likely be black doors/interior, Polar Beige color line, Polar Beige seats, standard headliner color (is that beige or Polar Beige? Difference?).
I'll have to scrutinize this with my MA next week.

I went with the darker headliner. The wife thought the darker roof color was better with the darker leatherette interior.
For me the headliner is sort of like the brim of a hat. Here in the deep south, the darker color can help with bright sun and glare just like a dark hat brim does. If I were in a darker more overcast environment like England of Seattle I might go lighter to brighten things up.

Plus, it makes the interior a little bit more lightly and with the sunroof even more!!!
