I test drove a Mini with dash and door trim that had a small checked (black on black) pattern. The one I ended up purchasing has piano black trim, which gets a little smudgy. I really liked the checked trim, and would like to swap for it.

Anyone know if I could order it? I only see the big black/white checked trim in the catalog.

 

You can order from the parts department at your dealer. It won't be in most catalogs you see online because it's a regular factory part, not an accessory. However, I believe the small checked style is new for 2011 models, and there may be a delay before it is in stock.

Thanks! Sorry it took so long for me to get back here. That is a bit more expensive than I was hoping... but the piano black is driving me crazy. This morning I parked and the sun happened to be in just the right spot... I glanced over and could see smudges, dust, and tiny scratches over all the trim on the dash and doors. ugh! And it doesn't even have 500 miles on it! I think I will post and ask anyone with the checked interior how it holds up before I go about replacing it. I am jealous of the fake metal trim in our 2010 MINI, but don't think it would look as good in the 2011.
