That doesn't sound good. Hard to tell without knowing where the noise is coming from. Could be anything. My first guess would be an exhaust leak since the motor seems to be running fine in spite of the noise and you seem to be scanning (your camera) over the top and around the middle part of the engine. Catalytic converter maybe?

Is it on the passenger side, high or low? The crank pulley is low. The tensioner pulley is higher up and more towards the front a bit. It sounded like something is banging against something. Sorry if I can't be of much help.

It's very possible that it's your tensioner bushings that have failed. It's pretty easy to check. Just jack up your passenger side and pull the fender liner off. With a light you should be able to see the bushings or lack of from underneith.

The other possible problem could be your timing chain tensioner. This is easy to replace but harder to test.

I hope this helped.

Yes it sounds like your chain tensioner. Have you been checking your oil and changing it every 5K? I have been finding they fail because of that. We stock them.

just had my oil changed 3k miles ago, but we found it to be low the other day.

If the problem is the tensioner, what is involved with changing it? Does anybody have some technical data on this procedure and/or complete chain replacement?

also, it might be important to note that the noise is less evident, almost non existant, when the car is cold (oil pressure is higher). As soon as it warms up it makes the noise. It doesnt get worse with revving, its just a constant tapping.

thanks everyone for the help it was the timing chain tensioner, it was really easy to change after removing the passenger wheel well cover. Its right near the oil filter using 19mm bolt just replaced it.
