Do I need the IPOD Interface if I have the USB/Aux Inputs?

Hey guys, I know I'm most likely late to the party, but I just bought a 10 Clubman S and I am still trying to figure everything out. My wife bought me the expensive in dash IPOD interface kit for Christmas, but I'm not sure I need it. Does the in dash kit do anything different that the y cable in the USB/Aux inputs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My iPod integrates fully just using the Y-cable that came with the car. I have a 2010 R56 and I can't imagine yours would be any different in regards to the stereo.

The reality is that the iPod interface has less functionality than the USB/Y-Cable set up.

Thanks for the replies. Do I need to by the Y cable from MINI or can I get one elsewhere that is just as good? The cable from MINI is $70. EBAY has cables from $10 to $30. Any other suggestions? Thanks for all of your help.

It needs to be a MINI cable. There is a proprietary circuit int eh middle of the cable that makes the iPod and the MIN work together.

No that is not saying that you can not buy the proper one on e-bay as some dealers to see on e-bay but call your dealer and make sure you have the right part number for it. There have been some updates to it.

Also if you purchased the car new from a USA dealer then the y-cable is part of the USB package and should be supplied at no charge. There have been reports of dealers taking them out of cars and charging extra but that is not the correct and if they are doing that to you make sure you complain to MINI USA.

This. It should've been in the car when you picked it up.

Not sure I got a cable for mine. I plugged into the USB using the cable that came with my new Nano and it worked fine. Radio controls took over. Just make sure you hit the USB button.
