Water Pump 55k Miles, sigh dealers
Took my 08 MCS in for what I thought was the thermostat and ended up being the water pump, Dealer quoted me $860. Now here is where the story starts, I called another dealer got a quote for $600. I called the dealer where I had my car, told them to stop the work I was taking it somewhere else then they matched it at that point.
All it means is that I'm no longer going to Bill Jacobs Mini (Chicagoland) for dealers they knowingly knew they could drop the price on the service but still charge you for it? Maybe all dealers are like that, but I did not appreciate it in that instance.
Anybody in the Chicagoland have experience with Patrick or Knauz? I think one of those two will be my new place to get my car serviced.

It's called business. Why would they "knowingly drop the price" when they had no incentive to? They quoted you what they wanted to charge. They knocked down the price when you found a cheaper one elsewhere. That is called haggling. Also the first dealer had to diagnose the problem.. The second did not.
What would you do if you took it to the second dealer and told them to replace the pump and it didn't fix the problem? They did what you requested.
Personally I'd check a couple dealerships and see if any of them would be willing to fix it for free since you are so close to the warranty expiration.. They aren't under any obligation to do so but you might get lucky and find a sympathetic one.
