2007 MCS Starter Removal?

Hi guys,

The starter on my girlfriend's 2007 MCS was acting up, and has failed completely. I'm stuck doing hill starts to and from work every day :P

Has anyone removed the starter on their 2nd-gen? Is it easy to get to from underneath?

I've searched around and can only find the procedure from the 1st-gen, and I don't feel like paying $30 for access to BMW TIS...although ordering the DVD off eBay might be an option.

Thanks,
Matt

I was actually just under mine the other day, and it doesn't look like a bad job. There's a fairly open spot in the back for it to come out.

Update: I replaced it, although it just barely did not clear the half-shaft. I had to remove the airbox above the intake manifold, as well as several cables, in order for the starter to come out. Major pain! Car fires up just fine now, though.

Also-- the starter bolts are reverse Torx (E12, I believe).
