I'm looking forward to buying my first mini. I joined this board because it looked active and looking forward to learning more about these cars. My current car is a 92 Nissan NX2000. I've read a few r53 vs r56 post and i haven't been able to find out which engine has better after market support. I'm not looking for wings and stickers/decals i'm more interested in cams/pulleys/piggy back or stand alone/Pistons and so forth. If anyone can link me to a few posts or somewhere i can find out, i would be most grateful.

Welcome aboard from the FL Gulf Coast! If you look at the main forums page there are respective sections for the first & second gen MINIs, and each has a forum for powertrain mods. That's probably the best place to start & get an idea of what can be done to get more Go from a MINI.

IMO you should look at which gen you like best based on handling, acceleration characteristics, and styling, and then familiarize yourself w/the different issues known to each. After that, take a test drive to see which one suits you best. No matter which way you go I think you'll find quite a few ways to you-ify your car.
